1/2 ton V8 Cummins?
I was just reading diesel power and came across the 1/2 ton diesel report. Dodge is going with a 5.0 90-degree V8 cummins, rated at 320hp and 500lb-Ft with a cummins built variable geometry turbo located in the engine valley. It will also be a common rail with piezo injectors. Would anyone get one? Where do you think you could take this engine hp wise? Will this compete with the 12v, 24v, 5.9 CR, 6.7 Cr? I would have gone with the cummins 4BT for a 1/2 ton. It is a proven system and sticks to the inline torque producing configuration that cummins followers love. Any thoughts or opinions?

What I have seen over the past year says that engine is destined for the 1500s. I believe there was also a V6 planned for the Dakota, Jeep, and Durango, assuming of course the Company survives it's current financial fiasco.

My friend works at Cummins down in Columbus and one of his roomates (they were all Cummins employees) brought home one of those half ton Rams with the 5.0 in it. He couldn't even raise the hood to show my buddy because they told him they could fire him if he leaked anything, lol.
Also, going with the 4bt probably wouldn't appeal to the customers they are targeting I would think. Plus it's been proved that V8 diesels can make pretty good power and torque.

4BT would make too much sense for a real Diesel guy, but that is not the market they want to appeal to.
Look for a setup that is way too fast, and get 25 MPG or less.
I will just keep my 12V thank you very much........

A few of the reasons they didn't use the 4bt are: Noise/vibration, emissions, and most people wouldn't buy one because its not a V8. I do find it ironic that the new V8 cummins for the 1500 has the same tq rating as the first gen ram with the 5.9 CTD.

Don't be alarmed, your inline Cummins is safe. From the looks of things, unless people just start losing their minds and start running to the truck dealerships to buy trucks at an alarming rate, NOTHING will help their situation. Consumer confidence is too low to spark the type of spending that it would take to grease the wheels for them by the deadline. I honestly believe we're at a turning point in this country's history and I hate to think of what it will look like in the next two years. If you listen to the guys that REALLY know what's going on, not the armchair economists on CNN or Fox News, you'll quickly find out that the economy and our government finances are living on borrowed time. In any case, the inline Cummins we've all come to know and love will be THE last, best diesel engine built.

I have also been thinking of the future of the auto companys. they keep talking about all the new cars that are "coming" and the future hybrids and diesels that are going to be so "great", are they still on there way with the way things are going.
As far as a 1/2 ton diesel i like it, but id rather have a 4bt.
But they will make what will sell.

I will test drive one but I know I will keep my truck. Maybe after they come out and there are good deals on a used one I might pick one up as a project truck and gut out all emmisions crap and make it a track only truck. I wonder if it will sound like a cummins?

The Big Three keep saying the American public doesn't like diesels.
Sort of doubt with their current problems we'll see any of them for a long while.
What's sick about this is most of the Three already make nice diesel rigs for Europe that get great mileage.

why dont the auto corps just go back to making chevettes gremlins and pintos? those cars probably cost 15 cents to make and go 50+mpg just put some fancy plastic around it and im sure they will sell! lol just an idea
