06 duramax...

Guys, The Allison is the best 6speed transmission auto transmission on a stock light duty diesel truck. If it has upgraded internals it should hold 900 ft lb of torque stock. After that who is ready to upgrade it. They still need a triple disc torque converter to handle the big power. The problem is that it is still mated to a EGR Duramax. 360 hp is at the flywheel. With the EGR and all the accessories hooked on the front I bet that thing is more like a 270 hp truck which is what ours is doing. If I didn't have a Dodge I'd have a GMC. ( I had 3 in the last 5 years ) They are just way toooooo expensive for the quality. Mine were always in the shop and the warranty evaporated too soon. ks

I traded in my 04' F-350 for a 06' Duramax/Allison 6 speed, got about 6000 miles on it, running a 28x7 Gooseneck Brand Cattle trailer with the truck and no problems at all. Fuel milage alittle poor at this time

Cattle, That is what I found too. My record was just over 650 miles (1060km) on a tank of fuel empty in my 02 Dmax but I couldn't get over 265 miles towing heavy till I was starting to sputter. (8.9 to 9.8 mpg). The Dodge gets 340 miles on a tank (11.5 to 11.8 mpg.) and usually has a couple gallons left. Make sure your glass deductible on your insurance is low or start shopping around for cheap windshields. I went through windshields like crazy on the GMC's and the last Chevy. A little stone chip would spread in a mile. With the Dodge I haven't had a stone chip and I've had lots of rock hits. Must be the angle or quality of glass. KS

My 04 Duramax has been trouble free for 86,000 modded miles. If I can get 231 more miles like that I will have surpased my Dodge mileage with less power. I liked the dodge 4x4, but the rest wasa 99 dodge. Crappy interior and crappy drive. It walked all over the place at high speeds or towing.
I just got a bad one, and then I got a bad diesel shop to do my mods which is my own fault. If not for that I may still be driving the dodge.
But I am so happy with my Duramax. This crap about not being a work truck is just one mans opinion. I work mine everyday. Farming and hauling tend to do that. I dont feel any modded truck run hard will last to high mileage without overhaul. And I also feel that when the time comes I will just trade it off and get a new one. No need to drive around something I cant deduct from taxes.
My fuel mileage is good, but I can already see the winter fuel difference.
Oh and someone said 06 was expensive to work on, well maybe for the dealer, its under warranty. I must say that the GM product group is standing behind injector work to 200,000 thats cool.
I always complained about pusher pumps with my Dodge. Wish they had the ***** to have stood behind me.

By the way, I have sneezed hundreds of times while driving them, and it has yet to cause the IFS to go out

Yep, that must be why every serious offroad guy swaps out the IFS for a D60 Kingpin solid axle.
The IFS works great if you are on the road and makes for a nice "car like" ride but try busting snowdrifts in MT where we have mountains and serious low traction areas and you'll find a different story like I did. One nice feature is the fact that the frame rails on GM's that hang down about 6" below the door line keep you high centered enough so you can't work the truck like you want. It's kind of a self preservation feature they have going on there.
On a serious note....if you are happy with it then I'm happy with it. I just happen to drive a different truck than you do.
