i have a 05 dodge cummins..( of course) and my father is a big g.m guy. we took my truck to montana..about 2500 mile round trip, he likes my truck. he has test drove the 06 duramax twice now, and he is not quite sold on it.(although tranny has some nice options..gear select etc) anyhow i'm not trying to talk him out of it but anyone have inside info on any problems with the new duramax or tranny??thanks in advance. p.s he now drives a yukon xl

 

the new duramax/allison 6 speed has my interest...its a pretty impressive setup...the only thing is the cost of repairs on those things...injectors are super pricey and the allison is extremely expensive to fiddle with...but i guess when u have 50 000$ for a truck like that u can afford those things huh

 

I work @ dealer and have not seen any issues, but they have only been out for a few months. This is the 3rd engine re-design or whatever you want to call it since the 2001 debut of the D-max/Allison. They increased the hp/tq, different turbo, added an extra gear to the Allison, airbox, injectors are no longer mounted in the intake (external of the head), intercooler and radiator?
When I talk to these D-max guys they always ask what I drive? I tell them I drive a CTD! They ask why don't you drive a D-max? I reply with a smile, I drive a CTD. They usually get the hint.

Those Duramax's are fast!(until they break) Those Duramax's have an Allison Trans with a funky paddle shifter!(until they break) Those Duramax's have independent front suspension!(which breaks anytime you sneeze).Those Duramax's Still have a crappy Chevy interior!(ergonomics just plain suck!)

That's because they released the new 6spd trans (which by the way is the best diesel auto tran out right now),

but they did not release the new engine package because they couldn't keep the head gaskets from blowing.

Not true. We got a couple of them sitting on our lot right now. The way you can tell is by the badging. The 360/650 has the Alison emblem displayed next to the D-max.

 

I drove one with the 6speed (with the cool up/down shift buttons), and it was not the new engine.

Can you verify by something on the engine?

The one I drove had the allison emblem displayed next to the D-max emblem, but it was definitely a 310/605 engine.

They also say it on the window sticker. I've seen one in person at a lot in St. Louis...
