WooHoo B99 @ $2.95

We have a great BioDiesel self-serve pump set up in North Ft. Worth.

I've been buying B20 from them for awhile.
Last week they had started selling B50 @ the self-serve pump for 3.05 - even better than the B20.

We'll today I stopped by on a Saturday and a couple of guys envolved w/ the operation were there offering the B99 - just had to pay w/ cash or check as they were pumping the 99% from a stand alone tank.

The mix in my tank is probably around 70% Bio. I can really notice a difference in the exhaust smell. They're Bio is made from virgin soy, so not quite the french fry smell.

I just filled up with my first tank of B99 for $2.79 a gal. For those of you in the Ann Arbor area they are selling this blend at the Wacker Oil on M52 and Pleasant Lake Rd.

My question for you folks, is B99 safe? I called my local Chrysler dealer this morning and they have not received any information from Chrysler concerning safe mixtures of biodiesel. I have run B20 in the past but I'm a little concerned about B99.

Paid $2.80 for B99 on Thursday. I put 10 gallons in the 30 gallon tank, so it's now more like B33, but even with that the exhaust smells a lot different than #2.

It's safe but your fuel filter will clog rapidly. BD is changed at the molecular level (polymerization) from the high pressures and temperatures of the common rail. It becomes "stringy" and return fuel to the tank clogs the fuel filter on the next trip though. How fast this happens depends on what the BD is made from. Soy, which is the most common is one of the worst. Our '05 common rail barely made it two tanks before the filter plugged. Cummins recommends B5 maximum but B50 has worked for tens of thousands of miles for us without a problem.

Thanks for the info. I will check my fuel filter at the end of this tank and each subsequent tank.

Also, I received this information in response to an email I sent to Wacker Oil concerning gelling and the upcoming change of season.

"The B99 blend will not be sold when temps begin to drop. The blend offered
at the pump will be changed to account for the changing weather. B99, (our
blend) will begin to gel once the temps are below 30 degrees, other blends of
Biodiesel can begin to gel at 40 degrees. Should you have any additional
questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call. Thank you for your interest in Biodiesel."

MrBlonde, wacker oil knows what they are doing, they have been in the bio game for quite a few years now.. I wouldn't doubt for a second they will adjust appropriately. However, I believe wacker is a supplier of 50 cetane amoco premier diesel...if you can get a b20 blend from them with 80% premier, that is just about the ultimate combo...
