What ratio Diesel/ 2-stroke oil

What ratio Diesel/ 2-stroke oil

I am going to try the 2-stroke oil and would like a good mixing ratio. About how many oz's 2-stroke to 10 Gals diesel?

I have been adding 2- stroke to my truck and use 1 quart for a fill up of 35 gallons. 8 oz. is probbly good amount for 10 gallons of diesel. Noticed less engine clatter by adding it.

One qt with fill up.

Remember to shut off the engine first, dump in the oil then fill up. Last week it was cold, truck hadn't warmed up yet so I let it run. I dumped in the oil, then the pump wouldn't pump fuel for some reason, by the time I got it working it sounded like almost straight 2 stroke made it to the engine. It was real quiet for a short time. So it seems the Cummins will run on a heavy mix.

I shut it off now.

And the 2 stroke shouldn't be synthetic.

Just curious as to why you would not run synthetic 2 cycle oil?

I do about 1 ounce per gallon as a general rule..... if I get sloppy & do more, no problem.

From what I have read the synthetic may have some type additives that may not burn properly in a diesel ????
Let me say though... I DO NOT KNOW first hand .... that is only what I have read.

I wonder where you got that information huh???

Well I agree I've been using 1 quart to 30-35 gallons of fuel or 1 oz to 1 gallon of fuel.. 128:1 ratio... Cummins aproved to use up to 5% of volume for WEO. So that means we can use up to 1.75 Gallons of 2 cycle oil per tank of fuel... I look at it this way 2 cycle oil is clean oil and not waste engine oil...

I use 1 quart per tank. Read a lot that says to use TCW-3 rated 2-cycle, something about an ashless burn.

I'm using a 1:200 mix ratio and found it to be the most efficient for my truck. More doesn't yield any acoustic change over the 1:200 ratio, and 2-stroke oil is more expensive than diesel.

i have an endless supply of two stroke oil since i work as a small engine mechanic hehehe.

i tried some tcw 3 oil. i think thats all i would run in a diesel. Synthetic two stroke oil has different additives in it. for the most part i use stihl oil on all of our small engine products seems to be the best stuff but it all contains fuel stabalizer in it, in fact all big name 2 stroke oils i found contain fuel stabalizer. so i dont know how well that would mix with the diesel. but the reason alot of the new 2-stroke engines are switch to synthetic is because normal 2 stroke oil we found on the 4 mix (4 cycle engine but uses a premix like a two stroke) carbons up the valves. so synthetic 2 stroke oil dosen't produce as much carbon.

but i would probably stick with the tcw 3 oil is ashless and cleaner because its meant for outboard engines. enviromental reasons

For lubrication. Very important for the injector pump and injectors.

I know this is a old thread but I got some really good updated information to pass along for you 2 cycle oil users...

I got more to report about conserning 2 cycle oil and HP/TQ numbers... Yes I got my truck on to the rollers and got to dyno it out... You all are going to be shocked with my numbers.

First off let me lay down some baseline information. You all have seen my web page on my BOMBs and MODs I've done. Ok... We all know that the 2002 Cummins SO is rated for 235 HP 460TQ at the flywheel.


Run #1 - Stock mode with Edge Comp Turned off.
228 HP - 462 TQ


Well this proves there is very little drag between the flywheel to the rear end. Also this proves there was very little change in HP/TQ number conserning 2 cycle oil. I'm using conventional Dino lubes in everything except the transmission which requires the Castrol SynTorque. But still even this number is high for HP/TQ at the rear wheels... 2 Cycle oil maybe???


Run #2 - Edge Comp turned on 5x5
379 HP - 831 TQ



Run #3 - Edge Comp turned on 5x5
381 HP - 826 TQ



Ok we all know the Edge Comp give about 120 HP on 5x5 seting but now do the math. 381 - 228 = 153 - 120 = 33 HP difference! Where did this power come from? I got no other fueling enhancements and only a BHAF and straight piped exhaust 3"... It's got to be the 2 cycle oil helping the burn.. So never the less I'm a extremely happy camper and will continue to use 2 cycle oil. I will report my ratio of mix here soon I need to pull the information from my fueling logs. I know I'm much lower that 128:1 because I added a full quart to my last fill up.


But here is my dyno sheet...
