He could probably use the mixed fuel in most gassers without problem.
Might smoke a little but wouldn't harm anything.

Adding ATF to diesel fuel is a leftover from the old days when ATF was just light oil and designed for diesel additives weren't widely availible.
Modern ATF averages about 60% additives and is designed not to burn thus leaving damaging ash deposits in your engine.
Most times the people now touting adding ATF are old timers or people who learned the practice from them.

I did the opposite the other day.
Took the wifes car to get gas for it and caught myself grabbing the diesel pump and getting it to the filler neck before I realized my mistake.

I think the nozzle is larger on the diesel pumps. My brother had a "really smart" girlfriend that tried to fill up her Blazer and she kept saying, "this dang thing won't go in, what am I doing wrong?" My brother went over and she had the diesel nozzle out and was trying to jam it into the filler neck. It wouldn't go in because it was fatter than the tank neck on the Blazer.

He should get rid of the truck and get a gasser. Some people just have the instincts for gasoline.
