wanna take the plunge with 94

hi all

been reading to as much as possible but hesitant to take the plunge to using BD. (b20 ?). the cleaning facter seems interesting to me , smoother and cleaner exhaust etc . but then again the deteriation of hoses (longer than regular) etc worries me especially being on the move constantly across the country .
I have no problem changing filters on the side of the road if needed but wondered if I should replace some hise before or just have some spare with me for example .

94 B5.9 230HP cummins mounted in RV ( mobile home)
85 K miles, (1st ? ) fuelfilter ( with drain) mounted quit a ways from the engine(for easy acces) . 25K/per year current driving

can I safely start with B20 ? as depedign on locations availability might not alwasy be there so switching from regular(#2) to BD would often occur .

thanks

You don't need to be too worried about it. I'd just keep a spare filter handy in case it's needed.
My 96 has had 44K put on it since I bought it in 2005 and I run B100 in it a lot of the time and various mixes below that, depending on how much BD I have on hand. Also note that the BD I run, anytime it's a mix above B5, is homemade BD, from WVO. I am sure I am not making it to ASTM quality standards, which are very hard to get with WVO.
Considering that, I have never even touched the fuel filter on this truck in the 44K since I bought it, and I have no idea when it was last changed before I bought it.
I suppose the former owner got good fuel so the tank wasn't gunked up, but I don't know. I have been mindful of the rubber fuel lines, which BD has no problem eating if they are natural rubber, but as I said, in the 2 years and 44K miles, not the first fuel system problem with this truck.
