Well, it looks like if I decided to run red- and I won't- I'm pretty safe out here in SoCal. After all, they'd have to drive 3000 mile to find me. What're the odds that EVERY SINGLE ONE of those violators was in Maryland?

After all, they were busted in THEIR home state.
I'd wager Cali has their own.........

Norco, CA, where I am currently in exile, has several rodeos. They're pretty big, and attract lots of people running diesels. There have been rumors of tank dipping while the contestants are otherwise occupied but I have no firsthand knowledge, just paranoid ramblings from strangers.

I suspect they can easily get past a locking gas cap... but can they do it legally?
I don't run red... but did test 2 cycle oil once that happened to be red. Since red dye is very hard to totally eliminate, I sometimes worry.

I've heard of them doing that once or twice down here too. A friend of mine that runs buckin bulls, was at a sale last year, and said that while all the ranchers had their trailers all backed up loading or unloading cattle, about 10 state troopers pulled in and surrounded em and dipped all their tanks. He told me that 3 or 4 of them got fined for running red

Wouldn't you have the right to ask for a warrant? Do they have the legal right to dip you tanks? Under what law, suspicion? They suspect you because you own a diesel and diesel is expensive... Would that truely fall under the search and seizure laws?
I don't run Red... Just wondering the legality of it all... We are Americans and do still have rights.... Last time I checked!!!

I agree one hundred percent. I think its BS that they can just come up and dip your tank without a warrant or permit or anything, just to see if we're jipping the government out of a few bucks in tax dollars

You didn't mention if the trucks caught in MD were tractor trailers or Joe blows truck. Were they caught at weigh stations or where?
I'm curious, i don't run red but mine is probably black from the WMO and the Blue 2 stroke i run.
