Screen in the fuel tank inlet tube

I've been looking and trying to figure the best way to screen the fuel tank inlet to prevent someone from removing my fuel when I'm parked in the mountains at trailheads. A friend had his truck's rubber hose cut just inside of the wheelwell and they put a siphon hose in there, so a locking fuel cap isn't the answer. Something like heavey stainless screen where the rubber hose goes onto the fuel tank is needed I think. Has anyone done something like this and what's the best route to go. Thanks. Dondi

if they are willing to go that far, the screen wont stop them.
how are you going to stop them from drilling thru the plastic tank and inserting a hose??????

I've heard the Cascade trail heads can be rough.
One solution I've read of is to fluff up a sleeping bag with some size 14 boots sticking out the bottom and place it in the bed or cab.

Have an aux tank in the bed. Keep the camper shell locked. That way you have enugh fuel to leave if they do hit your main tank

I found a great stainless steel mesh "basket" strainer in plumbing and with a socket tapped it til it stretched to about 1 1/2 O.D. then tapped it down the filler just below the vent line. Next to wrap and with metal and put on a hose clamp around the rubber filler hose just inside of the rear wheelwell (that's where someone cut my friends one time and put in a hose to siphon). Got the auxiliary tank in also. Have an extra sleeping bag and guess I'll go to the goodwill and get some size 14 boots too Infidel.

How did they get past the rollover ball? I though it was at the top of the tank.

Sometimes it's better to make it easy for them to siphon so they don't cause damage getting around it.
I've heard of several cases where the thieves just poke a hole in the bottom of the tank when they really want your fuel.
