I believe two gallons per full tank of diesel is a safe number.

Someone here said they were running 50% in their 12 valve without problem.
If it was my truck don't think I would exceed 20%.

How do you filter the oil before you dump it in? ive heard of just running it through a coffee filter to get the bigger junk out...any better ideas?

If you go for it, I would filter to nothing at least 10M, 5 would be even better. McMaster-Carr or FSI Industries has filters for cheap.

This all pretty well covered in another thread (or two).
Filtering opinions range, I am in the thinking stages of building a nice little filtering set up.

I ran about 7 in a tank along with 2 or 3 gallons of kerosene, worked good.

Is there a reason why guys are running mixtures as high as 70%?? I've been running a ps/mmo mix, at 1qt per tankful....Guys who run 2-stroke only run 1qt....But guys using wmo are running it by the gallon?? Is this simply a matter of saving $$$??? I'm thinking about running wmo just as an addative to replace my mmo mix, as opposed to running it as a "fuel substitute"... Can anyone shed more light on this?

When I did it, it was indeed for money saving measures. About $7.25 per fill up saved by using 2.5 gallons (less than 10%). Add that up over a year, $188.50 for someone who isn't dailiy driving.

Yep-it's because diesel fuel around here costs about $2.80 a gallon. After the filtration and pumping equipment I bought is paid for, waste oil is costing me just slightly over zero dollars and zero cents (gotta add some in for my time collecting it and replacing filters occasionally.)

Those of us doing that are not doing it as an additive, but instead we are running it as the primary fuel. Diesel has now become an additive to me, useful for thinning the oil and cutting idle smoke a little.

I've run various ratios in different engines and never had a problem. Isuzu NPR, Mercedes 5 cylinder, Perkins 4-107 and my '93 CTD. Once in the '93 I ran out of fuel (completely, it stopped running) and poured in straight oil. Ran fine and I really couldn't tell the difference.

The different oils I've run have been very old heating oil a friend needed to dispose of that had a lot of water associated with it, crankcase drainings from various cars and trucks, and new lube oil in a pinch to get home. The filtering was done through a bucket that had a filtering cloth and a baffle to separate the water and a hose bib near the bottom to get the fuel. Often there was only a few gallons into a tank that was maybe at 1/4 or so. No careful ratios were kept because I don't think it matters. At least on mechanical injection. I don't have any experience on the common rail systems with waste oil.
