Our 801 Powermaster Ford Tractor has developed a fuel problem. It acts like it is running out of fuel. Today I pulled the fuel filter off to put on a new one and the old filter had big chunks of gelled diesel fuel sitting on top of it. It wasn't dirty, it just had a few chunks of gel on it. The funny thing is, it's now in the 80 degree mark. It surprises me to see gelling in the summer time. We run offroad fuel in it with a 5% soy mix from the fuel company. I plan on putting in some diesel fuel cleaner tomorrow. I was just wondering what would be causing the fuel to gel in warm weather. Could it be the soy bio mix? Thanks for any help.

What color was the gelled stuff? Is it possible it is some sort of bacteria?

What you are probably seeing is WAX crystals from previously gelled fuel, that have broken loose from the filter media and floating around.

Change filters and dump in some white bottle PowerService or equivelant.

Fuel can gel in the filter and the engine still run as good as always, until it gels enough to stop things up.

Take an empty clear plastic bottle, fill it almost full of the fuel you are using, both fresh and another bottle from the tank.

Stick these in the deep-freeze and look at them a couple hours later.

I figure you will be surprised at the result.

I was just informed that soy diesel can start to grow some sort of bacteria. The tractor rarely burns a full tank of diesel per year so there is some older soy diesel fuel in the tank left over from last year. I've added a bunch of diesel additives to see if it will dissolve this stuff.
