Building your own WVO filtering station

I have a friend who got me a few barrels from his place of employment. I have two 55 gallon oil drums from the fresh motor oil they get, and two smaller 16 gallon metal containers that were also used for motor oil. A local used two plastic ones, but I'm not so fond of his set-up. My question is pretty basic and broad, but I'm curious what is the best way to set up a filtering station? Should one tank be higher than the other? I understand it as the first tank is for settling water out, while the second tank is a holding station basically. IIRC, water has a lower density and therefore rises to the top. That would certainly make sense in the one tank higher than the other.

Next, he used a couple of those water filters for RV's that you can use basic filters, coal filters, etc... in. How would those work? If I could set it up with one tank say 5 feet off the ground, with a spigot off the bottom feeding into a series of those filter set-ups, followed by gravity filling the next tank. I could picture this set-up costing very little, and working very well. I actually have a couple of those filter set-ups from when my family used to go camping that I could use. Beyond that I would just need some plumbing, and a shut off valve.

Sorry if that was long winded, just thinking out loud and asking for opinions.
Thanks,
Shawn

A lot better sites that you can go to (frybrid.com, Biodiesel.com) and see other setups. You can even search Youtube for WVO and see videos.
Hope this helps

Well, I'm not inquiring about the set-up for the truck. I'm actually speaking about the settling tanks and holding tanks where you'd filter it yourself.

Like this, but I'm not particularly fond of his station. I'm sure it functions well, but it looks hack to me.

It is a little cobbled together, but I was trying to do it for the cheapest/easiest possible.

I'm not sure how well a gravity feed would work on a setup like ine, I think you'd have to have some sort of push on through the filter.

The two big things I don't like is how to get it out of the basement, and the PVC. Other than that, I think the set-up is a great idea and cheap like you said. I'm not looking to spend tons of money, but it's gotta be able to withstand my niece and nephew playing in the basement, my dog, and/or anything else that can come in contact with like beer pong players.

The second pump puts it otu side. I'm not carrying ti up by the bucket full.

As for the pvc, I guess if you're worried baout an 8 year old hangin on it, that's not going to work.

I'm not sure what other options you would have for for it, I guess you could use copper, but that's more difficult to work with.
