Adding ATF into your fuel cell
Any of you running any of this or similar in your fuel cells. I have heard that the diesel fuel manufacturers are omitting certain properties that are essential or beneficial for these motors and that adding ATF is restoring what is currently lacking. Or is this just cheap peace of mind stuff or insurance?
Thanks

If you are talking about putting ATF in your fuel, I have heard nothing but negirtive responses about that. If you want to put something in your fuel, use a regular additive designed for it, or 2 stroke at the least.

i have heard that ATF in fuel is kinda of a myth started by truckers who were caught by DOT running red dye fuel. they would claim that they had added ATF to their fuel, in an attempt to avoid the fines involved with using no tax fuel in their rigs.

Adding ATF to diesel is a leftover from the old days when it was just light oil.
Modern ATF is 60% additives designed not to burn and will leave damaging ash deposits in your engine.

Yeah, way back (60's and 70's) we used to use it in the old 855 Cummins and a lot of times they would run better afterwards. Nobody does that now that I am aware of.

Log this one under "BAD IDEA" it was possible many years ago when ATF was different from todays version. Do it now and you will be putting something in your fuel that will not burn properly and that can't be good for anything

Just two weeks ago, I was at a truck stop in Des Moines and saw a trucker dumping 2 quarts in to his tank. He was using the cheap off brand (kmart/walmart). I still think its a bad idea. ATF was not meant to be burned that is why it is in the trans.

On the other hand - 2-stroke motor oil is designed for combustion chamber service, and has excellent hi-temp hi-pressure lubricity qualities, can be purchased in ashless and synthetic, neither of which will harm your ULSD emissions stuff
I've also seen 'em pouring in used crankcase oil - if it was changed because the accumulated pollution was bad for engine bearings at ~0.003" clearances, how then is it not bad for injection pump and injector clearances of 0.0000003" and less - 2micron is 0.000002" - you can filter some of the soot and ash and silicates and metallic particles, but cannot filter out the combustion byproduct acids
