Acetone in diesel

I was reading an Oct issue of Autoweek while on the tradmill. There was an article about adding about 8 oz of acetone to a tank of diesel.

says it improved performance, MPG and made it quieter

Some thing about making the fuel atomize better?????

anyone else heard of this

Will it melt my seals?

Theres a combustion specialist that comes to our plant that told me about the acetone. He gave me a web adress that talks about it, I'll see if I can find it.

I used acetone for about a month. I noticed a very little differance in MPG but the truck did idle better. I then switched to Howes. I like the stuff made for my truck, just gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling.

I've read quite a bit of information about acetone that sounded very convincing. We tried it on the 4-banger gasser econobox and it made no noticeable difference. The differences were so subtle that a few extra minutes of idleing in the morning affected the mileage more than the acetone. I'm playing with the two different types of Power Service right now, and will try some acetone in the diesel next. Probably January. My commute is pretty consistent, so the results should be valid. So far, my best guess is that it's all hogwash.

I've been running acetone with Stanadyne on for my last 3 fill-ups. I have not really noticed any improvement in mileage. Although with winter blend fuel and longer idling in the mornings, I think the elusive mpg fight may have to wait until spring.

The website is "lubedev.com" at the top click articles, and then acetone in fuels. Hope this helps. I myself haven't tried anything other than powerservice grey/white, but i'll do some experimenting when summer comes back around

I've used it for the last several months in my old 98 Ford Explorer. I can say for a FACT that the MPG increased an average of 2.5 MPG overall.

Went from 19 - 21.5 MPG. Idle and accelleration where BOTH noticeably smoother.

I must say that after the Temperatures dropped below 32, the fuel mileage went to hell in a handbasket.

I just traded in the Explorer on a 98 2500 12 V last week! I'll probably try the Acetone thing in it when the weather warms back up.

I ran the acetone in both my CTD and my toyota gasser. IMHO the cost, 11 dollars a gallon, doesn't justify the results. I got better results running high test in the car and fuel treatment in the truck.

I have tried this in my truck several times with several different ratios and each time my fuel mileage dropped. My truck may just be weird, but It had the opposite affect on it.

unfortunatly they are almost all gassers.

i tried it in my jeep with a blown power valve and it was a lost cause. that thing gets 7 mpg.

I just finished a 6000mile roadtrip last week. I started adding power service and acetone at the same time unfortunately. Between the 2, my mileage improved dramatically. Managed to get it up to 23.5mpg at 55mph in the Florida Keys. And also managed 17.6 at 80mph on interstates. When returning north, after filling with #1 Fuel, still managed 19.5mpg at 60mph.

Won't be logging alot of miles for the next few months, but will experiment between the 2 in the spring.
