where to start, building pulling motor

After 3 years of searching for a reasonably priced core I finally bit the bullet and bought a 96 12v core engine. Its a virgin 160hp motor which came with the pump.

I looking to build a pulling motor and really need to do this on my own(read, not running against Haisley or Scheids). I just don't need that kind of power to run around these parts and we don't have large prize payouts here. I need to figure out how I start my build, as in what component do I decide on first and design my build around. I'm thinking K31 or gt4202 maybe S400 for the turbo, cam other than reground, fire rings (head gasket?), knife edging the crank, serious head mods, possible compression drop.

I'll have to build the pump myself and have it bench tested. Some of you might cringe at this, but I have done plenty of pump work over the years, including the pump I'm running now. Since I'll probably have to keep the pump I have now that may be the focal point of the build (cc of fuel delivery available). I was thinking 13mm quick recovery out of the pump i have now, I may get by with 12mm P&b's though.

Whats the skinny on the marine rods?

Not to get off the path already where abouts are you pulling at? I pulled all over southeast Nebraska and a couple other states this year so I may have ran into you.

You should consider reposting this quetion in the 12v motor/powertrain forum or maybe the 2nd gen. aftermarket/accessory or whatever it's called forum. I think you'd get way more exposure and way more answers to your question over there. Just a thought.

It's none of my business but do you mind telling me how much you paid for it so I have an idea for one. Good luck. Go for torque power

Yes, we do know each other and we are competing in the same area. I haven't hooked at the same events you have. Truck was in pieces until late July. It's tough being a 1st Genner. Did get to see you run at Tecumseh and Adams. I talked to you in the pits at Adams for a few minutes, I am usually accompanied by 97crewcab.

$1100, no turbo, everything else. The rod bearings are shot / crank may need ground or at the least, polished.

We dont have that class around here. We have a pretty much run what you brung type of class. There are very little rules here and same with payouts. By next pulling season comes around I will be in the 1000hp range and them some. I think it will be another good year. I am glad we have rpm's now so we can play with the Dmaxs this year rpm wise.

Did you pull at Wahoo or go to the NPPA meeting this year? I am trying to figure who this is.

Yes, I was at the NPPA meeting this year. I'm not an NPPA member though. We all took a little cruise in your truck after wasting our time there. A meeting of the minds of sorts. I pulled at Wahoo as well.
