I'm going to try a set of M+H 390/40/17 These tires take a 12" wide wheel and the tires are 14 1/2" wide. Morrison runs the same tires on his race truck. It is just great to see a Dodge Diesel 4x4 with a set of 14 1/2" drag radials on all 4 corners

If you get a set of these you won't need to worry about your tires spinning when you come off the line

I ran BFG 315s for about two years at the track and now BFG 285s. Both worked well, the 285s are easier to break all 4 loose on hard launches.

I would just think a big tire would kill power

Just add more power. There is obviously more power needed to move the bigger tires off the line, but in my case at least this was somewhat offset by not having to worry about hookin' up. The 285s compared to the 315s have not netted me any real drop in overall ETs, just made it a little easier on the launch and engine.

I experimented with 265/70/17's. Got wheels cheap and always wondered the same thing you ask. They were a disaster. Had to turn box down to keep from spinning all four on a 15 psi launch. Hence the slowish time in my signature.
With enough power, I'm convinced 315's x 12.5" are needed to launch. Key than becomes keeping RPM's up.
I lock out OD till rpm's hits 3000, tranny shifts into OD around 3400 rpm and grabs at 2500 rpm in OD.
But keeping RPM's up should be much easier with stick?

Will have new times this weekend, but I'm convinced they will be faster. Have to wait & see.

What about a set of real soft winter tires? Some of the Blizzaks and such are super soft and seem like they'd be great on the strip. I'm no drag racer, this is just one of the many ideas floating around in my head that happened to make it to the computer...

I tried the same thing with the same results. Plus at 107 it would hit the 3400 rpm defuel. The third gen wheels sure do look good though!
