water injection advise

I have a water kit on my pulling truck it si set to come on at 7 psi and full on at 25 psi. last night at the sled pull I noticed at half track I had the egt gaueg pegged with the system full on. I am flowing 1764 ml/min throught the system and the water pressure gauge I installed was reading 120 psi of pressure so I know the system was on. what is my next step upgrade to a 220 pump and one more nozzle or a second pump and two nozzles?? Rob

What system are you running Rob? Personally, I would think about just going with a second pump and 2 more nozzles If things are getting that toasty.

BTW- what did you think about them reseting the sled at the end of your class? LOL Most of the pullers were steamed about it.

matt yost was upset to say the least I am running a devilsown kit. I was doing good until my convertor locked into drive I thought I had the kit figured out cause with the stage 2 pump I had it down to 1300 degrees now with the stage 3 pegged at 1600. also I can turn up the tst more so that may be a lot of it Rob

Matt had every right to be, I would have been. That move they pulled took him from 1st to 3rd. At the very least, they should have given him a rehook. After all they have no definite proof the sled broke just before the last 2 pullers. If they saw it break they should have stopped immediately and fixed it.

Oh well, back to the water injection. I would take into consideration the fact of the upshift. I am not sure if it was your truck or not, but I remember one or two trucks getting under the charger last night from either upshifting or locking the coverter or something. I am not sure if one was yours or not. If that is the case, that will drive egts up fast also. If not, then I would consider a second pump and another set of nozzles. I am not 100% sure, but the instructions I viewed on Devilsowns site did not show a relay, it showed the controller itself firing the pump. If that is the case, you will want to check with then to see if the controller can handle the amperage of to pumps. Maybe fire the second pump off a relay that is trigerred by the devilsown kit, or off of a hobbs switch.

Robert:

Hey buddy, I got your P.M. and sent you a long reply back on this. I agree with what Lloyd has already told you, try some extra nozzles first but if that doesn't do it, I would add that second pump as he said. Remember what you and I talked about a few months ago. To get my 96' EGTS down, I went from that early single 200psi RV pump and two nozzles to that Scheid 850psi pump (which is curently set at about 500-550psi) and FIVE nozzles to get my temperatures from a very toasty 1650-1700 degrees down to 1400-1450 now at WOT.

With that new Stage 3 CP-3 (more fuel) along with what Lloyd mentioned on the transmission TC, IMHO, that is definitely adding to your higher temperatures.

not trying to hijack at all just curious. John does that kit that you have make something like a snow look like a waste of money? if I get things lined out I am interested in doing some type of water or water/meth kit. I know the wfo boys had good things to say about the coolingmist system they said it was a nice setup. im just curious what my options are im not familiar with whats on the market. sorry Rpainter didnt meant to hijack your thread just curious like you are about the options

Jesse:

Let me try to answer your questions about the differences in these water systems buddy.

As I have said before, I still think that all of the cheaper water injection systems (Snow, Cooling Mist, Devils Own, etc.) do a great job. As I also said, I ran one of the early "Snow Systems" for almost three years with no problems and Matt Snow has updated them alot since then. However, with that being said, when our trucks get WAY UP in power it is my opinion that the "RV style water pumps" (200-225psi) that they use just have a hard time keeping up, especially when you begin adding more nozzles to the systems.
I feel that this is what Robert is now seeing on his truck with the addition of the bigger CP-3 etc.

If you have one of those systems, you can always add another RV style water pump to the system to add more pressure and offset the addition of more or larger nozzles which is what myself and Lloyd were recommending to Robert.

Jesse, I guess what I would recommend to you or others looking at the Snow type water systems versus one like I have from Scheid Diesel is "Where do you intend on going with the H.P. and what are you going to do with the truck?" If your intention is having a truck like mine that is north of 800+ H.P., I would recommend pricing both water systems out, taking into account the cost of extra RV type water pumps, water nozzles, etc. versus the price of a system like Scheid Diesel sells which already has a pump that will give you up to about 850psi. Their full mechanical system like the big sled pullers use such as Kent Crowder, Brad Ingram or Terry Martin use put out more pressure than that. Do I feel that my Scheid System on my truck is more efficient than the early Snow System I had? I would have to answer "Yes" to that, as the EGT numbers both on a "Taylor Engine Dyno" and on several chassis dynos have proven that. With that being said though, I did not go the route of two (2) RV style pumps like we have talked about here, so to be fair to the Snow System, that MAY have worked on my 96' but more nozzles would still have been needed and even doing that I STILL would only have been able to get a maximum pressure with the two (2) RV style pumps of about 400psi, where as now I can go all the way to 850psi IF NEEDED.

Sorry for the long post Jesse, but I hope this has helped to explain things and to answer your question.

I heard it once it hit lock up the charger was haven a heck of a time trying to stay on top. Can you change it so the water comes on a little higher psi ? That should do the trick Not sure what psi you leave at but I would set it a bit higher then that so the charger can stay on top. 25psi ?? may work ??
Still 2nd isnt bad for not being 100% Congrats !!

Yeh Robert, we heard the popping when you went by. I would have to agree with Timebomb. Try injecting the water a little later. The truck is not going to react under load anything like it does on the street. On the street, that setting might be OK, but it sounded like it was quenching the flame on the track.
