Smarty at the track-New Best 1/4

Well my night at the track was very interesting.

Last week the last run at 13.08s @104.54 told me the truck had 12s in it, I just had to find the right stack.

First the SMARTY is just unbelievable on my truck. Smokes too much for daily driving, but it has now become my holy grail and primary race mod.

First run TST 4/0, EZ 1 and Smarty SW 6. Decent spool and launch around 12-15psi 13.59@100.55. I kind of expected about that.

Second run TST 2/0, EZ 3 and Smarty SW 8. Everything felt good, boost built up quick at the line and pulled strong to 3300+ rpms in every gear. Launched at about 18psi.

1.849 60'
8.138 1/8@85.69mph
12.799 1/4@104.18mph

I was happy as could be. First run in the 12s. I let things cool down a while, it was in the 90s and humidity climbing. I let all the Hemi guys come by and congratulate me . I even broke my rule and had a beer and sausage on a stick.

Third run I was just hoping to confirm a 12s run. Lined up against a gal in a pretty yellow camaro or firebird(I can't tell none of 'em apart anymore). I don't know what happened different but time stopped, the planets lined up and I had a perfect run. Truck started spooling quick, was at 15psi before I knew it. I bumped up to full stage and just kept easing the boost up while waiting for the tree. Boost was still climbing steady when I launched, it was probably 27-28psi. I have never felt the truck pull that hard period. It just pulled from start until I let off. I knew it was in the 12s, but when I looked at the slip I was in shock . So were the Hemi guys when I showed them the time slip .

1.580 60'
7.865 1/8@86.11mph
12.476 1/4@106.09mph

I doubt that I will ever get a perfect launch like that again. From that point on tonigt I had issues building boost at the line and when I did launch the truck would just fall on its face and start popping and bucking and the run as pretty much over. This happened three times before I finally changed the EZ to level 2 and tried a moderate launch, lauched at about 12psi and still ran 13.006@105.30mph. That was the last run, lanes closed.

Tomorrow the TST comes off to go in for upgrade. Auto Cool Down, 3 program selection, and timing control. I know I need the timing control bad. Of course stage 2 or 3 cp3 would help also. Frustrating to not be able to be consistent yet with the Smarty, but I will get there.

I know that a lot of guys run in the 12s now, and the time is not the lowest I've seen. But the engine is basically stock, with boxes and downloader. Only thing is bolt on, 95gph FASS, Air Intake, Banks muffler and II SPS66 turbo. And of course a fully built transmission. I weighed 7325lbs tonigh on the scales, so I am very happy and the Smarty is what got me into the 12s, BDTD CL could not do it, nor could the TST and EZ stacks.

I believe that power level 2 is 40+hp with timing. I believe that you must be at power level 2 before any torque(TE) setting kicks in. Not sure howor if the twins programing changes anything. Of course I could be wrong, been wrong more than once .

That is an awesome 60foot and 1/4 time time. 1.58secs. My best in the big fat dually is 1.89 with a 12psi launch. When I get back together and get LSD on I'll have to drop a 25psi launch early to see what it gets. ks

Tell me about it.......that is just crazy. Very impressive. My best is a 1.7 with about 15 lb launch. Any more boost than that and my 60ft gets slower. I'd like to see some video of that launch. I bet that truck just jumps off the line at you. What tires are you running?

Well I am still trying to believe it. Previous best 60' was in the 1.81s. I do know the launch and complete run was a very different feeling than any other ran I have made. Michael, my performance guru, keeps banging on me to get the boost up over 20psi for launch for a good 60' time. Of course he did not get to the track until about 30 minutes after that run. I try and most of the time it will build and jump to that or higher and then by the time I have bumped to full stage light either boost is falling, or the torque management would start shutting things down. The first 12s run (1st 12.79 @104 was a 1.81 60') launch felt right and the truck pulled harder than ever before all the way through 3300+ rpms in every gear. That launch was at about 20psi. The 12.47s run I just caught the boost starting to build steady bumped into stage and just kept it building until launch. I believe it was close to 30psi at launch and never dropped. I locked the tc as soon as I was into first gear good and there was almost no drop in pulling through every shift. They hit hard every one. I don't know that I can ever get everything in that particular sequence again and I am not sure the drive train will hold it many times.

Those were the first runs with the Smarty on SW 8, EZ 3 and TST 2/0. I have my TST in for upgrade for timing control so it will be a couple weeks before I get back to the track. The Smarty definately was the difference for me. Triple stack with BDDL CL, TST and EZ best was 13.08s with 1.90 60'.

Truck weighed 7325lbs on the track scales and I have BFG 315s.

Awesome times. Love that 60 foot time. My best 60 foot is a 1.66 and that was with around a 25psi launch. Felt great though.
