I don't think it's pointless, but those who are locked are simply going to get further (all else being equal, which it never is...)

The Buck is usually very sticky. A lot of trucks run out of power before they run out of traction there. Sometimes they run out of driveline strength before that...

if its a limited slip rear i think it will be alright. if an when i ever pull at the buck im gonna go with 4th gear and 4low and hope i can get the wheels to spin a bit rather than stick...less chance of breaking, better chance to get spooled

Well, if it's sticky like Dave says, maybe your open diffs will be the only ones not to break before 80 feet and you'll take the win!

Give it a try and stop if you don't like it or think something is going to break.

my buddies made 13 hooks on his truck with open diffs he is running 285 bfg all terrains. on a sticky track and where he can hang weights he usually does exceptionally well. He got 2nd place at shelbyvilles spring pull. that was with dmax's 3rd gens ect and his is a stock chargered 2nd gen 24 v with lots of fuel (drag comp smarty bd 125's)

I have a friend that had open difs and then put in limited slips. He said he pulled better open. Give it a try. You will be hooked for life!

Why do you think the open diffs pulled better?
