To shift or not to shift out of 4 wheel?

Hey guys, I recently ran my first 1/4 mile run, I think I did allright for my first time at the track. My best time for the day was 15.159 @ 88.623. Im sure theres room for improvement on my end. My question is this.. Ive been told by some to launch in 4 hi & and then shift back into two. Others have told me to run the whole way in 4 hi. I just dont know how healthy that is for the truck. But I did it anyways. What do you guys think, whats the best way to go, keep in mind Im rowin a 6 speed. IF I was to shift back into 2 wheel, when?

Also I was running 35" BFG Mud terrains. I have less agressive tires in a 285/75/16 AT's. Im guessing I might of done a little better that day with the less aggressive tires.

Im a cherry when it comes to the track, but man am I hooked

i ran my truck with a 6spd in 4x4 launching in first because my stock clutch would take a 2nd gear dump. after the 2-3 shift i reach down and pop it into 2wd and still have plenty of time to shift to 4th. im not sure but some trucks it doesnt matter because it wont disengage anyway until you stop. It depends on if you had the CAD front axle or not. I could be wrong on that info tho and someone can correct me.

also for what its worth i ran a 15.5@86 in my 6spd 02 at a weight of 7400lbs with 110hp injectors, intake, exhaust, banks wastegate, and a banks ottomind 60-70HP box. you have alot of room to improve and so long as that haisley clutch doesnt slow down your shifting too much you can run some nice 14second times, and eventually some 13's with more turbo

I never shift my truck out of 4wd on the dragstrip, but then again I have an auto and as long as there is a load on the drivetrain it will not disengage out of 4wd, until the load is taken away. So with a 6 speed it will probably disengage while you are shifting gears.

Will there be a benefit, I doubt it. Also there is nothing wrong with running it in 4wd at that speed.

PS: you gonna be at the new years day race at sac raceway?

The way you were banging gears it would be healthier for your truck to let me drive it!!! LMAO!!

Seriously though the guys that are shifting out of 4wheel drive I think are all 3rd genners with shift on the fly twist *** transfer cases.....maybe I'm wrong? I personally am not going to shift out of 4x4 at mach I to find out if it works!

Shifting out of 4 wheel at those speeds with your truck would most likely grenade your transfercase, that is why I did not recommend it!

I think that if you had traded me those purty 18" rims and tires you got for mine as I asked, I would have had to pick up my doors half way down the track. LOL!...................I'm still willing to trade.

Some all terrains in a smaller size say 33's would probably boost your times into the 14's with no problem!!

BTW have you any leads on Black wheels 17x8-10 with the proper backspacing for my truck? Preferably steel. Keep your eyes open for me will ya!

You wont hurt anything shifting out. All it is doing is disengaging the front driveshaft on both end's anyway's. I really dont think it matters if you shift out or not anyway. I have done it a few times on mine with no trouble at all yet. Many on here do it. I think its mainly just whatever you want to do.

I shift out about midway through 2nd gear. If I don't I loose a little over 1 mph so something is disengaging somewhere.
