Schieds!

Where should I reserve two Hotel rooms...I'm looking to get NO sleep and smell diesel smoke and burnt rubber all night.
I made it to Muncie two years ago and Indy last year and both times Brad Ingram told me Schied is much better....Well this year I'll see for myself.

Thanks,
Brent.

I am a long time customer of Scheid's and have been attending their rallies since 1998. There are several motels at the intersection of I-70 and Highway 41 there in Terre Haute, Indiana. I have stayed at the "Drury Inn" and the "Pear Tree Inn" which are right off the interstate. There is also a "Ramada Inn Limited" right there and a Holiday Inn. You can go to Scheids website (www.scheiddiesel.com) for more info or give them a call at their Terre Haute shop @ 1-800-669-1593. Ask for Katrina or Dawn and they will be glad to help you out! They are really great people and their rally is one of the best IMO with vendors, two dynos, great sled pulling, drag racing, a show and shine among other things.

Take care.

Well of course he's gonna say Scheid's is better because he works for them. If I had to choose one of the other, I would choose the Thunder in Muncie/DHRA Diesel Nationals at IRP. I love them both don't get me wrong. Scheid's event only has vendors of the products that THEY sell. IRP has all over the country vendors, not just Scheid's products. IRP has a 1/4mi drag strip vs. 1/8mi in Terre Haute. One good thing about TH, is SHADE! Plenty of trees, grass and shade at the fairgrounds in Terre Haute. Can't say the same for IRP.

bgilbert:

I don't recognize your name right off, but I guess we could possibly have met one another at one time or another. Let me correct you about one thing though,......I DO NOT work for Scheid Diesel nor am I employed by them! I live and work in eastern N.C. and have lived here since 1995! As I stated to DTR Member "BDS", I am a longtime customer of Scheids and will tell you or anybody else that they have been extremely good to me over the past ten years since I began doing business with them. Because of that, I do help them out at their rally and a few other of their events throughout the year. I also have done the same thing for ATS Diesel Performance. I am also personal friends with several of the employees of both businesses and enjoy being around them. Kind of my way of saying "thanks" to these businesses for being so good to me. You obviously seen to have some type of a problem with that?? I guess I wonder why?

As far as the way Dan Scheid wants to run his rally with the vendors etc. I guess that's his business because he is the one who is paying for everything!
IMO,.... he can run HIS rally anyway he wants to, because it is his business and his rally. BTW,.....FWIW I would classify "ATS Diesel" in your description as an "all over the country vendor." They are based in Arvada, Colorado! Cummins Engine Company has also been at the Scheid Rally every year I have been there and even though their midrange engine plant is in Colombus, Indiana they also have plants "all over the country" including a plant in Rocky Mount, N.C.

You say "if you had to choose one over the other you would choose "Thunder In Indy!" Great! It is a good event too. But I stand by what I told DTR Member "BDS" that the Scheid Rally is run by a great group of people with diesel vendors, two dynos, great sled pulling (IMO a much better track than the Indy Event has), drag racing and a show-and-shine event.

They are both great events! I like Scheids a little more because its not so hot and the layout is better but IRP is just as fun. I can't wait for this weekend!

I actually prefer Indy better because of the nightlife. There's nothing to do in Terre Haute after the sun goes down and the pulls stop. We played with a few ricers, but the cops have everyone scared of tickets. The annoucer for the schied event mentions the $78 burnout ticket every 10 minutes. I feel bad for whoever got caught smoking last year... there went more of their paycheck for rediculous fines.

Well, Thanks to all for the replies and info on hotels and the event. I would love to be able to attend both this year but getting ONE weekend away from home is a struggle. Plus I live about 13 hrs. away so the driving ways a little on it too.

I was under the imprssion the Schied event had more sled pulling than IRP has. I really don't care for the drag racing at all so the shorter track means its over sooner. Anyway I'll be there and it sure is a disapointment to here about the cops there around the event! At Muncie the cops where sitting on their hoods cheering the smokers on!

OH Well, The Terre Haute cops obviously don't own anything that burns #2

Thanks,
Brent.

Thanks guys for backing me up. John I was speaking of Ingram. I didn't mean to come off as a Scheid disliker. I point the entire net via DTR and TDR towards www.scheiddiesel.com all the time. I've spent plenty of money at their shop here in TH.

My comment on the vendors was pointed at your opinion of the best vendors being at Scheid's event. I was just giving you my opinions based on my experiences. I have no problem with the way Dan runs his show. He told me reason being they only had their own vendors was to keep from more than one vendor selling the same thing and each one cutting each others throat on prices. Fine for business, but as a potential buyer of diesel performance products, the selection was much better at IRP last year, heck Industrial Injection was there, to mention one.

Either way I'll be at both, it's nice being right in the middle of all the action.
