rediculously modified, how do they do that?

I was watching a video from miller tire the other night and saw some 2nd gen dodges with twins, and I watched the schied video link . They sound more like a steam engine, than a diesel, until the turbo spools. What causes the "chugging type sound"? I've repaired stock diesel engines for years but this just has me thinking a million scenarios of what is going on in the engine.

Also, I've seen 12 cylinder pumps on 6 cylinder engines in pulling tractors how is this done without runaway. Is one set of injectors somehow turned on at full power when the turbo spools?

There is only one set of injectors w/ the 12 cylinder pump I beleive just two lines running to one injector. That pump will run ya quite a bit of $$$$$.

Alot of fuel delivery timing, decompression, big cam, basically the engine doesnt want to run at the lower rpm's.

So the chugging in a real hot diesel is like the lope of a gasser with tons of valve overlap?

I always wondered about this too! What do these guys run for EGT and water temp doing the pull? Better to put masking tape over the gauge?

Lower than you think.
The egt's are usually in the safe zone.

thats suprising, i have heard reports that the BIG hp pullers like haisley, and shied run about 1800+ on the EGT in those purpose built motors

i love when am giving my truck lots of fuel coming down the road and then let off quickly and i get that timing change in the motor as it tries to adjust itself due to the comp, fuel, air temp etc...and it will lope as i sit at the redlight until it finally gets itself straightened out...but it sounds like a mean beast there rumbling and shaking like it doesnt wanna run

Real close, but it's more of the function of injecting fuel at very advanced timing. Rumors have it in the 50-60° range. That coupled with the fact of these engines are running low, low compression like Justin said.

brnaodn.

Congrats on the new baby. Let your lady get her sleep. New babies are a lot of fun. They grow up quick.

How low of compression are we talking about, like 12.5:1, or lower. I've seen real old hand crank start diesels that are as low as 5:1 but they start on gasoline and switch over to diesel. These babys crank out the smoke!
