NHRA Rollbar rule?
Trying to research for my project and came up with this:
http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/ETQuickRef.html
According to that chart, the 2006 NHRA E.T. Quick Reference Chart, 11.50 to 13.99 doesn't need a rollbar. Does that correspond with what your local NHRA track officials are telling you? Is anyone running between 12.00 and 11.50 right now?

mcoleman has it right.
No rollbar required until 11.50
The time was dropped from 11.99 to 11.50 a little while back. THe reasoning was that newer cars are safer than the older cars were when they made the original rule.
However my oppinion is that if you have a TRUCK running faster than 12.00 and it's not some slammed on the ground built for high speed ride; then you should have a rollbar. Otherwise you are flirting with disaster.

Another reason for the rule change was that due to the increasing number of newer cars that could come close to the 11.99 range straight from the factory. One that comes to mind is the 03-04 mustang cobra.

It still depends on the track owner. He can still say put a roll bar in it if ya run faster than 12s. I have seen them do it. some tracks have their own rules.. I would agree, Faster than 12s SHOULD have a cage. Its cheap insurance..

As Hotmopr said it really is up to each individual track.
NHRA/IHRA rules are the minimum requirements. But, a track can have extra rules in place if they so desire.
Faster than 12.00 in a full height truck=roll bar (IMO)
full height truck and no roll bar= (IMO)
Later,
Wes
