Newbie wannabe puller
I am thinking at trying my luck at pulling. I am looking for some suggestions. I have a stock clutch? I have 3.54 gears, running bfg all terrains. I have watch alot of pulls and know a few things. I know to back out of it when or if the rear starts hopping before somthing breaks. Should I use low range, high range, any idea what gear? Would I be better off with a low gear, not slipping the clutch at the line and just pull as far as she will go just to say I did it or try a tall gear and see if the clutch will hold bringing it off of the line. Thanks for the suggestions.

I only recomend pulling hard core if you do not count on the truck to do other things like get to work.
if you have any mods at all that stock clutch will most like be done after your first hook, I have a 97 5 spd and the 13" con-ofe didnt even live one pass with out rideing on it, but with the metalic face side still holding we were able to drive it home. now it has a 3600LB dual disk but no hooks yet. thats $2600.00 + $700.00 input shaft to use it.
if you want to try it though I would say your first hook would be good low range and 2nd or 3rd and do not even think about riding the clutch.
Good luck, have fun

The clutch is my biggest concern. And yes this is my daily driver and trailer puller. Maybe I will hold off and wait till I sell my first gen truck to help fund some mods to my 98 so I can pull. Getblown5.9 are you pulling at the Buck on Saturday?

I hope you didnt pay that much for a 3600 you could have got an Iron Giant for that much.
