Launching with 6spd ?s
Usually I'll rev it a little in 2nd, and drop the clutch. A couple of days ago I put on the ebrake, stuck it in third and built about 20lbs of boost. When I let out the ebrake and dropped the clutch it just slipped. A second of that and the smoke was rollin out of the bellhouseing (what a smell).
Here are my questions. Will a double disk clutch hold if you purposley slip it to build boost? Is building boost at a stop with a standard tranny folly? Is a good clutch going to live for more than 6 months if you launch with boost every once in a while?
thanks

There is NO clutch that can handle that much slipping. the best thing for a clutch is to get the wheels turning as quickly as possible with as little as possible slipping of the clutch. IF you slip the clutch real bad then it will slip even easier the next time. it is cumulative damage.

You can do about what ever you want to do with a dual disk clutch. I've done many 4th gear launches with mine, I got 60k mi. and about 75 hooks to the sled on mine and it still ain't gone yet. With my truck at 20 psi there is one of two things going to happen, the e-brale ain't going to hold or the tires are being converted to smoke. Hell, last winter I had the truck weighted down to about 10k lbs and had to try to pull start a semi tractor for a friend. he wouldn't give me enough time to get to 2 nd gear before he dumped the clutch so I told him to hang on. 2nd gear 4 wheel high at 10000 lbs dragging 17000 lbs of absolute dead weight, it didn't like it but I did hear my tires start spinning a couple of times on the wet pavement. Once you go dual disk you'll never go back!!!
