The shafts are probably the most expensive parts that go on the tranny. See if you can find some way to at least get the input shaft done and leave the output shaft stock, this way only the overdrive unit will need to be dropped to do the output shaft verus pulling the whole tranny to do the input. I rand this way for about a year until i was able to afford the output shaft, doing the input shaft now will probably save you money in the long run though it may not look like it now, sell your body if you need to

i agree with the above statment. try and at least teh input shaft because if that goes then it more then likely taking something else with it and if the output shaft goes it usually just brakes off clean lot cheaper fix

If I could I would but I just can't swing the extra $700 to get it. It's just not gonna happen on my budget.

Let's start collecting donations for Blues billet shafts fund.
Most places get $450-$500 to R&R the tranny, (not including whatever it is they pulled it for)you don't want to pay that more than once.

imagine the scramble you're going to go through when you snap the input and you have to pull the tranny and put one in... I know you'll be able to make it happen...

now, go ahead and scramble NOW before the new tranny goes in!

smarty's sell for about $600...if you could live without it for a few months you could have the billet shaft then buy a smarty again when you can afford it

also fwiw- a hemi with intake, exhaust, tuner, and 100-125 shot can and will run high 12's, even a 2wd. a hemi is 345hp stock...so figure he has about 425hp at the wheels with the spray, and the truck will weigh about 6k lbs being a crew cab. my old truck weighed 5600lbs, was 2wd with 363hp at the wheels and went 13.3@104

I know the consequences of not having a billet input but I just can't do it. I'm already scraping just to afford the tranny. Are these things really that weak? I don't power brake, I don't do locked shifts, I just floor it left and right.

I believe that the price of all three billet shafts for mine was around $2,400 from Piers. That is billet shaft part prices only. Michael at HotRodDiesels.com did everything to mine that can be done. What I did not do at that time was replace the stock flexplate . It took a number of hard launches ok, but only one hard pull with the Smarty altered torque management to nuke the flexplate. So it is hard and very expensive to be able to do everything at one time, but the more you can do the fewer times you'll pay R/R on the tranmission .

What did your guy quote you for the shaft?

Looks like sound advice to me. A billet input is roughly the price of a smarty according to TiminVa's page.

Which do you love more,...I know this is going to be tough:

Smarty or boosted launches??

We never discussed pricing on it but DTT's website said $695 for the billet shaft. That's not including labor.

Ph4tty, I don't do boosted launches. As nice as it would be I just know I can't do it.
