Help me build a pullin' truck
#16
I fully understand now. A 12V may be the cheaper route but still make a ton of power if you get a mean p-pump, inectors and a BIG turbo you will be all set

thats just it. those parts, a dd clucth or a built auto, ladder bars, all the other mods you'll need will be WELL over 10k. just not possible to get 600+ hp and the drivetrain to hold if for that little bit of cash
IMO of course

If you all ready have a truck and a decent motor 10,000 is more than enough for a 600+hp truck with a brand new dual disc clutch. now if you go the automatic route no then you won't have enough cash.

YA the truck had an auto in it but the tranny and engine isnt there so i would like to install either another 24valve with a 6 speed or a 12 valve with a 5 speed. not sure if its gonna be more of a headache than its worth but i thought it would be a cool project to just mess around with. How much would a mean p pump cost and what kind would you recommend. thanks guys for all the help

From a cost standpoint I think you'd most likely be better off to buy a running 12v truck to start with rather than a third gen chassis to swap a 12v engine into. Cost wise a 12v with a 5 speed is going to be the cheapest to build but I think most of the time a properly built automatic will have an advantage on the track and they seem to break less driveline parts as well.

i found a 98 24 valve with a vp44, 200 hp marine injectors, edge juice, stacks, aftermarket rims and tires for 12,000 obo. the engine was overhauled 20000 miles ago, the tranny has been rebuilt, and the whole front end has been replaced. It also has a southbend dual disc clutch in it. The truck has 198000 miles on it. I was thinking about offering him 10,500 for it. so if i get it what kind of turbo would you recommend putting in it and also what kind of programmers would you put in it. I was thinking about taking the edge out if theres something better out there for this year of truck or stacking it with something. Would you recmmoned doing anything else to it for pulling. The guy said that he ahd it dynoed in indiana and it made 550 hp. Thanks for all the help.

Ditto on the power output.. Stock turbo would live to about 350, thats all.
To add, F-1 injectors, head work (Studs, Orings)and I am not sure on the rules for that class, in the 2.6 is it single turbo only? How about Water-Meth? If not then twins and some water.. The Edge would be Ok, but how about the Smarty? My $0.02
