Dyno tips

Gonna be hitting the rollers next Saturday.Just wondering what gear to run in,5th or 6th.Dyno is a mustang with eddy current brakes(I think thats what he said). The owner of the dyno doesn't have much experience with diesels.Any pointers we need to pass on to him to get the most out of the trucks.
TIA

Just be sure he enters all the correct info at the start...like vehicle weight, ..... how much hp is required to go x mph. RPM pick up either optical from the crank or digital through the port under the dash...

There are lots of Mustangs out there. I've had success on the MD-1100 and MD 1750. The MD 250 would not read power past 600..

Good luck

If you are just going to "dyno" and are not attending a specific event, I'd consider just going to find a DynoJet Dyno.

IMO, they are the most consistent out there. I have dyno'd quite a bit and have always found the dynojets to be close to expectation.

I don't have my experience with Mustangs though because the one time I did use one it was 50hp to high with no mods.......other than air/exhaust. There seems to be to many variables and offer to much opportunity for input error with Mustangs.....to have great consistency.

My truck is very consistent when using dynojets. I actually think the numbers in my sig are about 20hp to high........due to using a dynocom dyno (last time) vs. a dynojet.

Here is a list in NC if it will help. Good luck with whichever you go with (Mustang or DJ) either way.

Ohh, one last thing...if you do go with DJ........use 6th gear. I think on a mustang you would prob use 5th........as they require 1 to 1 ratio.

I thought you always want to dyno in your direct gear, I.E. 5th gear in a 6speed.

depends if you want accurate info or want the higest # possible. if accuracy is important make sure all info is correct all the variables are the same run to run and the truck and drivetrain is up to normal temps and run in a direct gear 5th in your 6 speed 4th in a 5 speed. if you want the higest # possible run it in od and ride the brakes a little to help load the engine. riding the brakes and realeasing them will sometimes get you higher #'
