I agree the big tune can stay in the computer, BUT you do not tow with all the available power. Sure you can do an occasional blast, and probably do. I have used all the horses under the hood grossing 24,000 pounds, but the truck would not run long if it were to be worked at that level 100% of the time, or even 10% of the time for that matter. How long do you think that Duramax would last with the big tune running at maximum gross weight with a tall load pushing a 25 mph headwind at 80 mph - not even to the end of the day. That is all I am getting at, these trucks are NOT run down the track at a workable horsepower level, but are allowed to compete at that level. A larger turbo, which can and often is used to upgrade a work truck is not allowed - even though it is a devece that runs at its full potential for any given amount of fuel 100 percent of the time. Towing, cruising, or competition, it is not turned down or toned down to go back and work with. There are turbos that are simply too big for a work turbo, but they are bigger than the 2.whatever that is being discussed in this particular class.

BTW, congrats on the new addition to your family. Kids are cool!

I see you live in Springfield. Isn't there a GMC dealer near by that has always sold any new vehicle on the lot for $50 over invoice? Where are you coming up with $50,000 for the truck, and another $10,000 for tranny/EFI? You can have all of that for $35,000-$42,000 depending on the options on the truck. (That's a far cry from the $60,000 you quoted.)

Besides that option, the Duramax has been out for just over 6 years now, so who said you have to buy a new one? Why not get a used 2001 for $15,000-$20,000? You could have a daily driver that can pull sleds on the weekend through out the Summer with built tranny, and EFILive programmer for as little as $20,000. (Hum, that's the same price as the Dodge you quoted!)
A built Allison that will hold up for a long time at 500 rwhp cost no more then $4,000, and the EFILive is just $749.

what dealer sales dmaxes for under $40k, my brother just ordered a f250 v10 crew cab long bed for $37k and the powerstroke would have been another 5k. there wasn't a dmax here in ohio that could even come close to my dodge in the street class. 30ft was the closest one ever got.

I bought mine for $34,500 out the door. My uncle just bought a new 06 for $33,000.

Break down of my truck.
Truck $34,500, Clutch $2200, EFI Live 850, Tires 850, Exaust 400, Intake 200, Gages 250, Fuel system lift pump 400, and misc. 1000. Thats $40,650. I had all most all this before I decided to pull including the clutch. I would still have most of it if I did not truck pull. And yes it is all paid for. I also so have a complete second engine and a good bunch of parts to build it. As I plan on running Street Diesel next year.

I think I know that guy!! If I can make enough money this winter to buy drivetrain parts i will be back next year but if im gonna pull im not going to miss but maybe 2 of them im gonna try to put dodge on top at all levels of dhra.

I talked to sleddy at cynthiana after i had to o ring and stud the head after all of the drive pressure from my stock charger got to it and he said that he had heard nothing about a change in turbo size and that the dmaxes needed a class they could win. I will give the dmaxes a lot of credit as it is hard to run with them but when you do beat them there is a great sense of satisfaction.
