DHRA Sled Pulling Idea...

DHRA Sled Pulling Idea...
Ok here is my idea.
This is a suggestion about the DHRA sled pulling series. Point’s series.
DHRA in my opinion does the better job of organizing events, making sure the rules are enforced etc than any other association by far... Now one big problem with the DHRA at least the sled pulling events, is the part of having to travel great distances to compete for the big end of the year prize. Just ask anyone why they are not running for points you will get the same answer(too far to drive) Here is what I was thinking. Why not break down the DHRA pullers into regions and basically have region award winners. And then to finish off the year, have one large centrally located event.(like Schieds) The top 3 of each region will compete for second, third and the title of DHRA US Sled pulling champion. That’s my simple idea. I would love to compete in the points series and im sure there are a bunch of guys that would also; they are just unable to travel every weekend half way across the country. And honestly I think that by doing something like this the DHRA will become a much larger organization...
Let me know what you guys think.

Assuming there's enough hooks in each region that you could have a long enough series to determine a regional winner, then yes it would be a nice alternative to a puller following a national circuit. What would be the cat's meow is if you could get the smaller associations to become DHRA Sanctioned, adopt their rules, enforce them the same way, then take the top X number from each association to an invitation only regional pull, then finally the top X number from each region to go to the big show. The way you're suggesting would work assuming the spread of hooks is equal across where you want to divide it regionally and there's enough hooks (10?) in each region through the year.

I think that is a good idea, something the DHRA should look into. I'm not sure when all the DHRA pulls were this year but it seemed like the sanctioned pulls that were close here(ITPA) were during the week and that would make it espically hard to travel and be out until 3 in the morning then get up and go to work the next day. Im not sure what everyone else does for a living but I can't afford to just take off work and spend fuel money to travel and such, espically with diesel in the upper $2-3/gallon. This is a very good idea. But finding enough competitive trucks and keeping a purse could be a task...

HOOKED,
It might work out where you live but around these parts we have plenty of pulls to keep us busy most of the time so I dont think DHRA regionalizing would help much. But who knows maybe it could work out if they teamed up with ITPA in Indiana but I dont see that happening.
With that being said I think I made 3 DHRA hooks this year, the others were just too far out for me make.
Mainly time and money hold me back.

Pourin re-read my post i never said anything about not having pulls to go to. My problem is not being able to compete in points due to the long driven required every weekend. It would even help you compete in points.

I dont think it would work around here is what I am trying to say.

I dont know why it wouldnt work? It would work if DHRA supporters where wanting to compete for points. There are guys driving all over the US to pull this makes it alot easier. Maybe a little more info on why it wouldnt work?

Hooked,
I am not trying to argue with you. But I gave you the reasons why I think it probably wouldnt work around the area where I live...
We already have a local pulling league and many of the pullers just dont have the time and money to keep up.
Another reason that DHRA stays somewhat on a national or larger regional level is because it takes a bunch of money to put on a pull where its all Diesel pickups. DHRA puts on some large pulls somewhat local around here and they do well but there are many out of state trucks that make that possible. With just our local Indiana/Ky trucks there would not be enough to make a good local event or at least to be on par with current DHRA pulls.
However though I would suggest contacting Eric McBride or Gene Mohney and suggesting your idea's. I dont think it could hurt. They are always looking to expand DHRA.

Ok well what would be the problem with hoping on a local pulling group? If DHRA would throw prize moneys at it i think a local association would grab at it and just run that class as a DHRA sponsored class. That would ensure the same sled with posted dates and rules. Just a thought.
