challenged to line up with a PSD

I am the lone CTD in an extended family full of PSDs. I have an uncle with a 7.3 and another with a 6.0. I know the 6.0 is a bone stock 2004 4x2 crew cab. The 7.3 is a 2000 with some work done that i know about (banks exhaust, "chip" beyond that i have no idea).

I run a bone stock 06 CTD 4x4 automatic and been asked to line up on a private driveway for fun. My thing is i have never drag raced my truck so 1) I have no idea what I am doing 2) what are my odds? I know I have more power on paper than either of the rigs but I am still not sure. Any advice from the DTR sages is appreciated

quietly borrow a toy from a friend. make sure you ride the brake and build some boost before taking off.

the 6.0 will take you stock vs. stock. If you have a friend with a smarty, then download #5 into your computer, build 3-5 psi of boost at the line, then let go of the brake and roll into the throttle. You win...pretty simple eh?

Well you would probably loose to both the 6.0 2x4 is a lot liter and in short race would win against your 4x4 weight and bigger tires.

The 7.3 is probably more likely to run off and leave you though than the 6.0.

Build boost at the line and see if you can borrow a Smarty, Bully Dog or anything else from a friend...

What tranny is in these trucks? That comes into play. I would get the Smarty on your rig & smoke them both. They won't even know what hit them.....just download it & hide the box in a private place.

thanks for the feedback guys, they are running autos in both. i don't want to mess with the programming just yet so if that is what it takes to win so i will have to pass on the challenge for now. at least i know what it takes to smoke em. Right now my rig just looks mean so I will let them continue to wonder.......

one last question, since on paper i DO have more power why would they be faster? I know a modded 7.3 is nothing to sneeze at but why would the stock 6.0 walk me? is it just the transmission?

I was wondering the same thing....my brother has a 04.5 & he out ran many PSD's before adding even a air filter. He only added a Triple Dog with crazy larry & keeps up with my rig pretty good. Maybe his truck is just a special truck or something, but no PSD has hung with him yet. I think you would definately outrun a stock 6.0.

the reason is the free revving nature of a v-8 vs. a I-6. Remember 90% of all race engines are V configs, NASCAR, Indy, F1, NHRA. The V-8 is better suited to rev faster, and the 6.0 has a 4000 rpm redline, which means they can hang in gear longer than the dodge. Last magazine stats i saw had a 2500 chev LBZ run the 1/4 @ 15.9@88mph, 250 Ford 16.1@83mph and 2500 dogde 16.4@83 mph. Same speed through the 1/4 means the dodge was chuggin' and picking up ground, but at the 1/8th the ford would have you!!
