Atlanta Results
What a week I've had.
Points leader Philip Palmer of Stuckey Racing defeated Jeff Garmon in the final round to repeat as event winner. Some may have forgotten, Philip's first race was Atlanta 2005 where he attended and won his first race with DHRA. Congrats to Stuckey Racing. Jeff Garmon once again proved, you gotta finish to win.
Buck Spruill set another performance record running the 10.49 and was #1 qualifier. Again, awesome job and congrats on the new record.
Quick Diesel was the best I've seen. A field of 9 racers all capable of running the index.
Brandon Meyers competed in his fist ever Quick Diesel race and came home with the win. Meyers also secured the Garmon award for best package (0.150) and Top MPH. (114.35)
The finals had Meyers facing points leader Jim Layden in a close fight to the finish. Both trucks had been running consistent all day but Meyers .029 reaction time on a 12.143 pass was enough to cover Laydens 12.10 run. Both trucks traped at 114 mph and change.
This class was fun to watch. Great reaction times and close ET's from all drivers meant there was side by side action all day. Truly a racers class!! Congrats Brandon on a great job winning over some very tough competition.
Bracket was another big class. Billy Counts (Billy Ram) pulled out the victory as 2nd place winner John Tallant went red. Billy bought back in after a first round loss which payed off as his reaction times and ET's were dead on the rest of the day.
Will Harris repeated as winner for the manual transmission class for the 2nd time. Will’s 2002 Dodge 2500 recorded a best pass of 14.15 at 95 mph for the $250 certificate from South Bend and $200 DPM cash.
Top Diesel - WOW
Keating new best 8.81, Dr. Performance, new best pass 8.62. Scheid on the last pass of the day trying to better their already awesome 7.70 @ 181 mph, ended up slipping the tranny after running a 1.17 60 foot and a 3.16 330 foot. Drag Guess estimates that pass would have been a high 7.30 at 191. Tells me those guys are on the right track. But all of the Pro Teams looked like Pro’s and put on a Pro caliber show.
A huge thank you to everyone that came and endured a very long day at the track. I don’t have attendance numbers yet, but there were a lot of folks out there.
Thanks to the sponsors for providing the means to make it all happen. Without them, we have no race. They would be one more time:
TS Performance
Suncoast Converters
Mass Diesel
Competition Diesel.com
Stuckey Racing
DP Tuner
South Bend Clutch
Silverline Exhaust
And Garmon’s Diesel Performance

Thanks for putting on the event David.
In spite of some scheduling delays, (mostly caused by a couple of exhibition cars oiling down the track), it was an enjoyable event.
The racing was Top-Notch, The Show-N-Shine paddock was chock full of classic Mopar iron,
The diesel truck section of the pits was THE place to be.
The competitors were all busy between rounds, but still taking time to answer spectator questions, and even the BIG guys were welcoming passers by to step on up and check out the trucks.
The folks in the stands went home with a new respect for diesel powered pickups.
Great time.
Plan on making the trip again next year.

I was discussing how you were the hardest workin' man there Saturday. The DPM brackets and Pro mods, DHRA PS and QD, a dyno, AND everyone wanting a piece of your time makes for a full day. I totally feel for you

Hey, I have a name it's Streetsmoker! Sux I redlighted in the finals by just .008, this was my 1st ever braket race of any kind. I was also killing the light the whole night and was close every run to my dial in. Just the way it goes sometimes I guess. Never got in it to make $$$, just to get some testing done cause the Fri. night testing was ashambles, so going away with $150 was just icing on the cake of a great weekend!!!!
Thanks also goes to Dave's crew from me, cause without them I couldn't have run due to the fact I left my helmet at the house and was red flagged till I borrowed one from one of his crew.

Sorry I'm a little late finding this thread,,,
If ya know how busy David was on Saturday,,,,,, that's almost how busy I've been since getting home Sunday evening! Grass needed cutting bad and it would have helped to have a haybine for the back field! My 23 yr old pet turtle decided he would strip the silicone sealer out of the corners of his 20 gallon aquarium, thus dumping 18 gallons of water on the floor!
Anyway,,,,
What a great weekend! My hat's off to David and the DHRA crew. It was also nice to spend some quality time with David and Penny on Thurs night, (thanks again for dinner). We saw Mike at the strip and I think the only time he had a chance to sit down was when he was putting another vehicle up on the dyno. It was good talking with folks I don't see very often. It's really great to be able to talk with all the teams in the pits. Even the Ford team with the Snow White truck was joking with us after losing the starter on the truck. I had not kept up with the DHRA racing as much as I should have and was surprised when I found out that Eric was the pilot for the Scheid dragster. I remember helping him change tires on his 2500 to race at the strip years ago. I must also say that meeting Keating was an honor. This fellow and his crew are really a "Class Act" and just as friendly as they come. It just seems that there is a whole different attitude with the Diesel Racers compared to the gasser crowd.
This makes the 3rd time I've attended this event and it keeps getting better.
I will be there again next year.
