6 speed for pulling?

Hey guys, Im thinkin about getting an 07 5.9 6 speed and was wondering how the 6 speeds do sled pulling vs an equal truck thats automatic. I have never pulled before so I dont know much about it. I do know that a 6 speed truck is definatley slower in a straight out drag race but wasnt sure if the same rules applied to sled pulling. Thanks alot and any input is greatly appreciated.

Iam also wondering how much power a 6 speed manual can hold before it starts to go south? Not including the clutch obviously. Thanks again.

plenty of guys out there pulling on an otherwise stock manual transmission sans the requisite clutch upgrade.

autos do very well after you spend the coin to upgrade them....

The manuals usually do better because they transfer 100% to the ground. However their is no cushion to your driveline like a auto so it is easier to break stuff if you are not setup correctly

the 05.5 and newer have the G56 manual trans and the 05 and older 6 spd is a NV5600 trans and they seem to be stronger than the newer ones. there are some guys on here saying they are breaking the G56s drag racing and sled pulling BUT they stopped making the NV5600 so parts are hard to come by now and expensive when you find them. its kind of a toss up but I would for sure get the 5.9L because it takes alot of power to be competitive and the mods are there for the 5.9L to be as powerful as you want

The Nv5600's start chucking parts at about 700hp but can be repaired.

I've been rock-n-rollin with a 6-speed pullin here this year, cross your fingers. IMO drag racin is much harder on them

So the manuals can be beefed up like the autos to hold alot of power then? Does that include the G56 or just the older NV's? How much HP are the stock G56's holding that you guys have seen so far?

You can build them up but just to a certain point everything startes breaking. Justin Edwards in the Black Crow express runs stock driveline just beefed up a bit and he does good with it. A NV5600 will hold up to alot of horsepower see it everyweekend at the sled pull track you just better know when to get out of it. I have 20 hooks this year with stock nv5600 and no breaks. My buddy has 25+ on his truck this year with no breaks with stock driveline.

That is mainly because that is the transmission that their truck came with.

I have been pulling my truck in 4th gear with my 37's with no problums.

No tranny is 100% fail safe. NV5600's have broke G56's have broke and so have built auto's. All I can say is if my G56 blows in the next pull is it lasted the longest
