Why is diesel so gosh darned expensive...?

I haven't heard of any refinery shutdowns recently...does anyone have any idea why we're paying almost 10 cents a litre more than regular?

Other than the usual reasons of Albertans taking one for the team for producing evil, dirty oil...

In the East most heating is done by heating Oil.
Heating Oil is nothing else than Diesel fuel and in fall everyone is filling up there tanks for the winter creating a shortage for Heating Oil and Diesel.

Filled up tonight at 102.9, I was rather surprised. It was still in the 80's when I was in Edmonton three weeks ago. Guess its been good I haven't driven much since then, only had to fill up once.

It's almost the same price as premium...greedy so and so's...Albertans are taking it like a skinny guy in a prison shower for our own resources.

I blame Environmentalists.
Another thing I noticed over the year is that I get with Petro Canada much better mileage as with other brand anyone has similar experience?
I keep track of my fuel mileage here.

I have two choices in Cochrane, Shell and Fas Gas. I've noticed a solid 1-2 mpg increase using Shell over Fas Gas. If I use the Shell Vpower diesel I pick up another 1mpg.

It's strange to get a mileage difference since all of the fuels come down the same pipeline from the refineries.

They all produce the same quality and grades of fuels and they combine in the one pipeline.

Perhaps the additives are making the difference...they are added at the local bulk stations.

I experienced that first hand a few days ago.
Filled up in Regina at Stupid Store, drove out to the Hat and then Lethbridge.
mpg was down about 2 mpg...cold weather and winter blend fuel perhaps.
Filled up at the FasGas in the Hat on the way back...down 3 mpg with a tail wind.
Filled at Stupid again when I got back and the mpg is up again.

Just for info...
Regina 105.9
Hat Husky 106.9
Fas Gas 99.9
Lethbridge was 105.9 to 107.9

I guess I got what I paid for with the cheap price at Fas Gas.

GAS PLUS next to Kal Tire off of Barlow/23rd has it for 98.9. ESSO at Country hills/Nosehill Dr just put a diesel pump in a few months ago close to my place but his price is .10 higher than everywhere else average ---must be trying to pay for the install real quick----the worst place in my travel is that gas station next to the greek/soulvaki house restaurant(blue/white building) on 17Ave SW/28ST just west of the old childrens hospital----he wants 1.18 a litreDW
