Wholesale on the price of bread is on the rise-----just had an increase last week(Westons/Canada Bread/little guys---specialty bakeries). One thing about retailer's is when you pass an increase on to the grocers(wholesale),most have a 60day wait/grace period before they pay the new wholesale increase(invoice cost)----but the new price increase usually hits the shelf price within a week---little more margin for them for the next 50/55 days---name of the business.DW

It's the price of hay that has me concerned. It was a late harvest last year with an early start. Late start and ???? for a harvest could be an issue.

I had to install a second sump pump at my house yesterday, one just wouldn't keep-up with the water. First time for me in this house, and I've been living here 9 years.

Snow out here in Wainwright this morning. Lasted for a few hours. Made for a slow start. I'm working out in the sticks this week. First time I was just given GPS cordinates to get to work. and I was suprised on how well it worked out.

Was -3 deg's C this morning and I didn't pack any cold weather gear for this trip. I think my rear is a ice cube, thankfully my 2010 has heated seats.

It was 2 above here last night. FINALLY got the garden turned over, tilled and harrowed today. The ground was still so wet that it was touch and go a few times whether old tractor was gonna make it. The sump pump is still pumping out every couple hours. The ground hasn't been anywhere near this wet in the 10 yrs I have lived here. The hay is coming up crazy fast. Potatoes, onions and all other seeds go in tomorrow. Gonna leave the green stuff (squash, cukes, zukes etc,) are going to wait another week as some major rain and stupid cold temps are on their way on Monday. Thank goodness the garden is only a hobby not a living. I feel so bad for my farmer friends who actually depend on the land for their livelihood. There is so much seeding that isn't done yet. They say that if it isn't done really soon then there isn't any point at all. Can we make rice or lilly pads a cash crop in southern Alberta?

Pretty much all the planting is done around here but there are a lot of sprayers sitting out in the fields still waiting for it to dry up..
