Well after some research today, my starter probably is totally fine, just the wrong starter.. Found out today that the starter for 03 to 06 cummins are all the same, 07 5.9 and 6.7 are the same, but different than the 03 to 06. I am pretty sure that when I compare them, the reach will be about 1/2 longer. I think that my existing starter was just touching the teeth on the flexplate.
I phoned the dodge dealership,, $1600 for a new one, I actually puked a little. Finally found one at a autowreckers in Edmonton, should be here tomorrow morning for 275

Thats what I was thinking Shawn,, LOL. The crappy part of all of this is that if I would have known before the engine went in I could have changed the adaptor plate on the engine and there would have been no problem..... GRRRRR

thats interesting about the starters, I know the adaptor plates are differnt between auto and standard, not sure if the starters are the same between auto and stick. The thing i find funny is that the cranks are differnt in a auto than a stick on common rails.

I sure could have used the time on the truck.. Got the new starter,, totally different. On the old starter it had about a inch that stuck out past the gear, on the new one it is flat. So I think that the old one the gear was actually hitting against the TC.
