Stopping at scales in AB.

So question for you boys.

I've heard rumors amongst the rodeo crowd that AB is starting to demand that private Horse Trailers, goosenecks etc stop at the scales when the lights are on?

Anybody else heard of this?

I've always buzzed on by and never had an issue.

I thought it was just commercial vehicles that had to stop.

How about calling DOT so you get a correct answer?? :

Youre such a "tool"...

I have a commercial registered vehicle and i havent stopped yet at the scales, even when pulling either my holiday trailer or trailer for work. Some companies are getting there guys to register for CVIP inspections, which then would mean they would have to stop. If you have your truck registered under 4500 kg's then your fine, if its registered over they might give you greif. Hope this helps

I haven't heard anything yet but my one ton cube(bread truck) which is registered over the 4500KG limit has to pull into the scales out at Balzac even when i am running just to Airdrie for some calls.I try to take the back way but "MR DOT" likes to monitor those roads too and will/can stop any commercial vehicle just to check why you are traveling that particular route(better have invoices to back up what you say ).I usually run to Cochrane first and head down #567 to Airdrie, then i miss the scales on the way back into Calgary.Scales also open now at 5:00-600:AM so heading out earlier doesn't work either. For the last 18 years of heading thought the scales i been red lighted to park maybe 3-4 times, mostly for an unknown burned out marker lights, only been thought the full **** inspection once where they go though your truck with a fine tooth comb----sit back and enjoy cause it takes about 45 min-1 hour.Whats next----RV'S DW

I don't know,

I've never had any problem driving past pulling my stock trailer.

This is just a buzz that I heard through the Rodeo crowd that they were pulling in trucks and horse trailers etc.

I think I'll keep driving past until somebody informs me otherwise.

According to the signs on the highway before the scales, commercial vehicles over 4500kg are required to stop, farm vehicles exempt. I imagine most rodeo folks have their trucks registered as a farm vehicle. But like Shane said, check with the DOT for full details.
