Last inch or less sounds like your alignment tool shifted during bolt up Only choice is to drop it. Might try to wiggle the output shaft with it in gear, as there is a chance that the splines are hanging up.

I think my stock nv4500 input shaft is in my garage still from my '98.5 upgrade. I can look if you want . I know for sure I have a plastic nv4500 alignment tool in my service truck. I just used that one last weekend for sure on my own truck.

bolt the clutch up to the flywheel, with the alignment tool in it. if the tool doesn't slid free after its bolted on. do over. until it is. separate bellhousing from tranny. then bolt the bellousing over the clutch. its waaaaay easier to stab the input into the release bearing and clutch this way. and its only 4 bolts after they mate.

yup I've got my stock '98.5 nv4500 input too. wasn't sure if it would be an easy find in the pit of dispare. but it was you're welcome to borrow it if you want.

Luke, you used that on the demon truck? What ever happen to that truck? That was one fun ride buddy. Still remember laying down that big big cloud on 8st in Airdrie coming back from Taters. I think that we scared everyone off the road that day.

I loved that truck. just not big enough for 2 car seats in the back. stupid dodge and not offering crewcabs in the '90s............

that is the stock input shaft from 'ol smokey. I put a 1 3/8" input in it when I put the 13" dual disk in. so its been kickin around since.

I'll bring that input to work with me tommorrow. I'm on afternoons though so I'm working til 6pm. but we can work something out. I'm in the SE, 1 block from the Flying J truckstop.

I tried doing it that way when I initially did the DD in the dually. Could never get the throw out bearing onto the bearing retainer. I'd pull the tranny without the bellhousing, but I always install them with it on.

I dunno......I did it that way for the 1st time last weekend on my auto to nv4500 swap and it worked great. yes had to hold up the release bearing. but that was minor.

Part of my problem probably also stemmed from the discs not being aligned. That cheesy plastic tool just isn't made for doing two discs.

If you have some RTV and a scraper, just pull the input shaft out of the tranny and use it as the alignment tool. Its 4 bolts, and then you just have to clean the mating faces for reassembly. Thats what I do when I do the dual discs now.

he picked up my old input shaft on thurs AM. I gather it worked out one way or another.

how we do 15.5" Eaton dual disks at work. is load it on to the input shaft with the tranny still out of it. then mate up the trans and bolt it up. and then bolt up the clutch through the inspection window. way faster and way less work.
