diesel shop in calgary

I know its a broken record from me, but Piers and Harry are the primary reason PDR is in the place it is on the market. Now having their own shop, you see how the good word travels fast and how they conduct business.

Yes totally agree---now we are talking about a "ported" stage II head with Hamiltion springs/valve job/push rods/O-ringed/ARP 625 studs etc ---basiclally done right the first time.Says he will give me a best/good price---just have to get it past the wife first. Now i just have to find a decent local shop that has "experience" in installing a head with Orings/helix 2 cam---don't want to be a first or second timer/guinea pig for a shop to do this kind of work on my ride---ANY SUGGESTION GUYS.With my 70/80 hour 6 day work week i cannot find the time to ever try to accomplish this work in the future.

I'll do some digging. Ya a cam and head job seems straight forward, but some shops in town can't even set timing right. . Time to do that job on your own would be over 3 days in my estimate.. Not good if its your primary driver.

just got my suspension from bigdog, they matched the lowest competitor price i could find and shipped it up here quick.
the head powertrain guy at nadp told me there is no such thing as a 1 3/8 input shaft for a nv4500, sorry had to get that out

I know Richard at BigDog is a genuine HD mechanic, used to work at Finning, till going out to open this shop. I know and went to Sait with a bunch of guys from Finning. I hear Richard knows his stuff. But I've not personally met him though.
So theres some more info to throw in for ya.
..........and kenny........I was told by one of BigDogs desk jockeys that the stock lift pump in my truck could "never put out more than 7psi" .......when I showed him the guage in my truck he started back peddling. said mine was an anomaly yada yada.....whatever moron

As for getting the work done, you might consult guys who've done them before. I know Jamie, Mike and Luke have done the o-ringd head install themselves. I've yanked and installed a cam (might be doing that again in the near future). I think between the membership here, we'd be able to get your truck going again in short order.

That through Peak? I talked to Harry there this last week, said they aren't doing O-rings at this point as they don't have the equipment to do it yet. He said they've done a couple local and farmed the machine work out. If you find out more about these, I'd be interested to know. I was gonna get a head done here in about two weeks, but if they have a package deal, I'd be all for that.

if buying products from BC shops look at price differences when getting them shipped here you dont have to pay 2 taxes if you pick it up there parts could cost more. dont get me wrong do buy from them but it might be better to have them ship it here.

Thanks for the info----kinda getting a feel for what can and cannot be done around here.I'm really thinking about heading out to see Peak out in BC cause the MRS side has family close by---might even drop the truck off and have them set it up with the head/studs/cam(if they can do it) and while i'm there pick up my BD twins ----and install them here in my garage---time is looking real short for me in the next 6 months.May still get the motor work done and save the twins for a 09 winter project to pick away at.Basement is 90% done so over the next winter i'll need something to keep me busy---summer i'm gone just about every weekend to Gull lake---developing my lot (garage/decks/fencing/landscaping).i can not have the truck down during the summer cause i need it to haul stuff up there. Thanks for the info again.DW

I to have personally not met Richard. But have have his name and number right here in front of me . I have had One conversation with him and was kinda surprised. One of the few folks i have talked to about the older truck who didn't tell me the BOOK only went back to 1994. He said come in and we will see were I want to take the truck as far as HP and what kinda goodies I want on it . I did get the impression that he still pulls the wrenches and is quiet busy.

Some places will knock the PST off if you just so happen to be there to pick it up, they just mark the invoice as "shipped" and away you go. Not all places will do it though.

I was told that Don of Formula 1 isn't building any new cams until June. So if you can find someone that has one on the shelf it might be a good score. I wanted Don to build me a new sticks, but I was told he wasn't doing any custom builds at this time. If your putting on a set of twins, that will make installing a cam and a oringed head a lot easier to work on. The cam was fun, as I even put in new lifters with my cam. I even dropped two lifters into the oil pan. I would guess that you would need two to three long days to get even things together, if your a first timer. For the cam, you will have to take off the bumper and remove the rads. It took me while to figure that out. If you do the work yourself, get the twins turbine housing and exhaust manifold ceramic coated, you will be glad that you did. It keeps the heat down under the hood and your parts will look like brand new for years to come.
