Canadian Dealers are ripping us off !! Buy a 5th wheel read this !!
I was looking around for a sliding hitch for my 06 Megacab, I went to the dealer that sold me the trailer and asked what they suggested. They said they have a great system by Pullrite. They quoted me a price of $4800 not installed. I was talking to others on another site and they said this was a great system and one member gave me a link to the website in the States so I could do a little research. I ended up calling them directly and found out that they could ship this same item for 2200 for the 14K and 3000 for the 24k systems. That is a far cry from the price at "Woody's". Total rip off!! The cutomer service rep from Pull rite choked when I told him what they were selling them for. He said he would tell his supervisor know and they can discuss the pricing confusion. I can't believe this is still happening. I shouldn't be able to order anything cheaper over the border as the shipping and border charges should usually out wiegh buying directly from a Canadian dealer. Just recently we have exposed auto dealers for not adjusting prices accordingly. I am very sure if the dollar was to go down that it would not take a year to re-adjust the prices !! You are representing merchants in Canada and the stereo type you are creating is that you are gready little pigs. It is only a matter of time befor you are exposed !!! You want a good name ....keep the cusomer happy! repeat buisness makes a healthy buisness. I will get to the bottom of this !! I will ask them what their reason for this is !!

OMG this is so funny. I just phoned woody's about the same thing yesterday. Almost filled my pants when they said the price. Well if i can save 2000 i will be going south. I got a buddy that hopefully can pick up one for me. With the dollar being on par this is just truley mind boggling.
AS you mentioned no problem increasing the price when dollar is short but pretty slow to drop.

Well, this is not related to a 5th wheel, but I'm heading to Montana tomorrow to a Honda dealer to buy some power equipment. 50% off, 5 1/2 hour drive, not too hard to make that decision. I spoke with the dealer here and they said they cannot come close to those prices. Regarding Honda, I think its the head company that is screwing Canadians, we've been "trained" to accept 30-40% higher prices because of the previous weak dollar, but in your case its just all out greed. I do not have a problem with someone making a buck, because thats the name of the game, but do not try to retire off me!!!

If the item in question is manufactured in the U.S. or mexico or the americas then you will not pay any duty. You will have to pay any state tax that they may have and GST when you get to the border.

KLX. you hit it on the head with the japanese manufacturers.
This side of the border, stuff built by japanese companies stayd higher as the dollar went up. Stuff made in the states, such as harley motorcycles and so on, went down with the strong dollar.
The price difference between here and anchorage ak on a 700r raptor atv, was almost $4400. The american price was that much lower. And, 170 bucks to have it drop shipped a couple miles from home.
Oh well, some days you get a good deal. some days, they get a good deal.
Its when they put drill curls in the vaseline, that you start to wonder if you shouldn't buy somewhere else.

I am looking at buying a new Suzuki 750 quad for work and have been doing some pricing. I looked at the U.S. web site and it says MSRP is $7400, canadian web site $10,700. So I emailed Suzuki canada and asked for a explanation. They responded and said that there are promotions out right now to get the price close, so I started calling dealers.
Fort Mc.murray - $12,000
Riverside, St.Albert - $9300
Wetaskiwin - $9000
These are all bare bones prices, no winch or any accesories. Wetaskiwin looks to be pretty good to deal with. There is also an assembly charge of $300 to $400 bucks and the good ol' GST, so any way you look at it it will be about $10,000. Then I look at the prices south of the border. If you shop around you can find them for about $7000. Man, are we getting ripped off. I have to find somebody going to the states and get them to bring me back one. Anybody know what the regulation are and costs involved to have a machine either shipped, or go down and pick one up are??

You will save more if you are not getting it shipped this price includes shipping and customs charges. it was around 1800 with all of the extras to pick it up.. they said you would have to order and have it shipped to a dealer. Have them ship to a dealer just over the border and pick it up there. The cost wont be much to ship thru US. If you install down there no one knows the diff !! time to fight back !!! our money is just as good down there !! PS try Standon's they sell it as well I think the hitch wharehouse does as well .. I have not priced it out there yet !! who knows maybe just Woody's being the greedy dealer !!

You guys should check out the Maghytec thread going on in here same thing being bantered on. I hate having to buy stuff from RV dealers, we got our trailer from Woddy's 2 years ago, luckily i had a 5th wheel hitch in the truck. Parts prices are crazy, $80 for a water fill setup for the hose connection. Now that trailer is off warranty i highly doubt it will see them again.

By coincidence, I too have been shopping for a Pullrite Superglide sliding 5th wheel hitch since January.
We sold our old travel trailer and purchased a modest 5th wheel in January.
While our trailer GVW is around 10000lbs, I much prefer the heavier 1 piece 24K Pullrite Superglide. This hitch lists on the Pullrite website at US$2700 for the hitch, US$928 for the install rail kit plus US$100 for trailer king pin adapter. Total US$3728.
A quick check on Ebay shows a RV dealership selling the whole thing for US$3100. A few more checks on popular on-line discount RV parts stores showed that they sell this whole kit for US$2600.
I would never let a dealer install my hitch. These are all cash and carry prices.
Woody's in Cgy price: Cdn$4200. Standens & the Hitch Shop: Cdn$4500, My RV dealership where I bought our RV: C$4100.
Even with $300 shipping plus brokerage fee, it was much much cheaper to to buy from the U.S.
I always prefer to buy locally and will pay extra for the convenience but this was totally ridiculous. None of the local guys would budge even after I showed them the on-line prices.
Obviously, you can figure out what I did. I want to buy locally, support our local economy,
and I do think that our local vendors are very good but not at that premium.
My Retrax bedcover was the same deal. Best local cash and carry price C$1350.
On-line from the US: US$800 + $125 shipping + $80 brokerage charges.
I don't understand what is going on. I have read Dennis' (NADP) explanations and can understand that the cost of doing business in Canada is greater than in the U.S. but the difference cannot be that large.
Cdn retailers, be it Rv dealers, car dealers, peformance dealers not only have to compete with the guy down the street but globally.
That's the new economic reality.
I work in the I/T industry and not only do I have compete with local folks for my job, but with all the Indian, Chinese and Far East employees. That's my reality.
Not trying to offend anyone in any way....Joe

If you don't have to have a slider, take a look at the B&W turnover ball hitch. You can get the hitch and the 5th wheel setup allot cheaper than $4800. You start with the gooseneck hitch which is rated for a 30k trailer/7.5k pin weight and then add the "companion" 5th wheel plate. It will lower the weight rating a little.
