Trading up to a 2012 CC 3500 SWR LB. Is it a bad choice?

Looking to replace my 2005 for the above mentioned. Should I do it? I am worried that the quality is not good as I always had my 2005 in for little things that should have lasted decades and my Toyota friends had nothing done at all.

Toyota and also Honda don't make a "truck" for sale in North America.

Without having more info, I think it'd be a good move. Especially if it has low miles & is still in warranty, or deleted and owned by someone who didn't abuse it.
You'll really like the quality, look & feel of the exterior & interior. The transmission is leaps and bounds better than the 48RE. The exhaust brake rocks- towing is a dream in the 4th gen. You'll probably take a hit on mpgs if stock. Keep a code reader handy, as you'll likely get a few CELs, but they are usually minor issues like sensors.
Seems like the tranny and ball-joint gremlins have been exercised in the 4th gens.

I do a lot of highway towing/driving so mpg is important to me...having recently moved from an '07 5.9 3500 4x4 4:10 auto (see sig) to this '12 6.7 4:10 4x4 auto the difference between these is significant. Doing the same type of driving the '12 gets similar mpg towing as the '07...about 9.5 to 10.5 with wind and hills entering in as occasional factors. Unloaded highway travel is were the big difference is. The '07 5.9 always was in the 18 -19 range closing in on 20 mpg were this '12 will not get better than 12 to 13 no matter how carefully you throttle it. In town driving with the '07 was consistently in the 16-17 range were this '12 is never greater than 11 to 12-ish.
As I mentioned in the earlier post, as long as you are aware of the lousy fuel mileage, this new '12 is quite a truck. Lots of acceleration power, very comfortable interior and very quiet compared to the '07. Plus with the exhaust brake feature used in combination with the tow haul mode it will come to a stop with a load much easier than the '07.
As many have done to address this, doing a 'delete' will create significant mpg improvement, but while still under warranty this is not an option for me at this time.

I have the same truck you're looking at. I'm averaging about 14 to 15 in mixed city/hwy. driving. Highway runs about 16, but keep in mind we have a 75 mph speed limit and most of my highway driving is at that speed or a bit more. Towing runs between 9.5 and 12 depending on the usual factors like wind, hills, speed, etc. I had an 04.5 before this and on average I get about 20% lower fuel mileage. However, you need to keep in mind that you have extra horsepower and torque which takes fuel to create. Also the 2012 weighs a bit more because of the longer crewcab style. As mentioned above, the fit, finish and comfort of the 2012 far surpass the 3rd gen.

I commend your honesty. I thought about a high mileage 2012 90-110,000 that would be out of warranty and delete it but now with tbarbee1 stating he is not getting the mileage others with deletes state. For what I can get for my 05 with 89,000 miles I can get into one for about the same money and 7 years younger but that option may not be worth it.

Had i had a 3500 longbox instead of a 2500 shortbox I would have kept my 04.5. That being said, I'm glad i bought the '12. I can't say enough about the comfort, the transmission, the towing experience or the ride and handling compared to my 04.5. It is truly a night and day difference. The room in the backseat alone for my three boys is reason enough to never look back. Yeah, the mileage isn't that great but I can't tow my trailers with a prius so that's the way it goes. As our EPA catches up to the rest of the world, the mileage will change too. The more and more diesels released in this country, the more the EPA will have to change the way they look at emissions in diesel vehicles. Right now they are like a golf ball in the high weeds. I will keep moving up the food chain in diesel trucks as they continue to evolve.
