Running Board Bracket Broken
Driver's side running board brackets are broken.
In my 2010 truck, the running board attachment point to the body wasn't stout enough to carry the boards after 13K in rough country. The body bracket attachment area is fracturing and pulling away from the body.
I am going to weld three reinforcing plates to the body, redrill and install a new set of weld nuts and inserts. I believe the weld nut and insert hardware mounting kit part number is 68044460AA. Enough to do both sides.
Also, the aluminum spare tire shield surrounding the tire carrier is broken. Part ordered.

Interesting. I wondered about the mounting of those "boards" - seemed to me like the mounting isn't as stout as it should be - my aftermarket "boards" bolted onto both the inside underneath of the body (like the OEMs) AND the frame. These new ones give a little when my 260 lbs step on them...thanks for posting a possible fix.

My previous Rams always got aftermarket step bars/boards - this is the first OEM that I've had. Did your previous bolt only to the inside underneath of the body? (like the new ones)

I tried the weld nut fix with a fashioned 2x2x1/8 angle iron bracket welded to body drilled to receive weld nuts and their inserts.
Weld nuts pulled out of the bracket again and running board came loose. No confidence in this solution at all.
Ok, I did it my way. Re-drilled holes in welded angle iron bracket to fit a 9/16 (size I think) nut and welded nut flush into bracket. Bolt through to bracket with washers.
Fixed tight and ready for the back country.
