New CTD 2010 3500 4x4
Hi all new to the forum. I have been a GM Duramax fan for a long time having owned 4 in last 10 years.
I am looking at making a switch to a CTD but I am not sure what to buy. Brochure says I need 4.10 to tow 14K 5th wheel and dealer says I should be fine with 3.73 as I will not tow all the time but weekends here and there and some couple of weeks in Summer then daily driver.
What is your opinions? Or would I be better off finding a 2007.5 or 2008 low miles DRW with the 6.7? My local dealer offering 0% for 72 months and by the time I buy used and pay 6.5% payments be about the same.
Really need to make up mind about gearing on the new DRW 4x4!

You will be just fine with the 3.73 to tow 14k. That is how much I pull and I have the 3.73 with 60,000 problem free miles (not a 2010 truck though )
The 2010 would be the better deal IMO plus they have bigger brakes, nice seating Ect.
BTW welcome to DTR.

Thanks for the info. My local dealer found one with 410 and I might go with that and be safe and have more bottom end tq. Cover me in case I go to a bigger 5th. Mileage I was told maybe 1 mpg less. I am not sure about the 44K price though.

The prices caught me off gaurd the other day while I was at the dealership getting my oil changed. I have bought my last new truck, and probably diesel, as they are getting way overpriced. If you have to have a truck to pull that weight then I would buy the new one, for the same money. The bad thing about the new trucks are your still getting the cummins engine, but it's still a dodge wrapper.

I would get the 4.10's if I were you. You have two overdrives on there and I dont think it will even be 1 mpg different. I have a dually with 3.73's and I put the gear vendors on and we are real close on the manual transmission ratios as your auto that you are looking at. I wish I had the option of 4.10's with the G56. Most people think I am crazy for saying that, but with the GV, I wish I had another 100 rpm's higher. Buddy but an 09 with 3.73's and he tows around 12k and he wishes he did the 4.10's.

lol
I've had four Duramaxes before this 2010 Dodge.......Ran each up to 180,000 miles, and for fuel mileage, and pulling in the mountains of Colorado, they perform much better. The Duramax engine pulls substatially better, and the Allison trans. does not "hunt", nor "slide into gear" as the Dodge does. I also run class 8 Cummins and CAT, and have no bias one way or another. Like the new Dodge in all manners, except performance.
