lug studs broke...

I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem.....all left rear lug studs broke pulling a trailer down interstate 75.. Really wondering what would cause this.....

Over or under tightening lug nuts, aftermarket wheels or rims, overloading trailer, using anti-seize on threads, bent rim or extremely out of balance wheel. accident damage, bent axle, I would start with those for possible reasons.

over tightening would be my guess, i carry a torque wrench with me at all times in case i have a flat.......i have never had one break or strip
By the way you need to enter your vehicle info.

Here is my story, a little different but...

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=305238

Depends on what rims you have. My dually ran alcoa rims. The rims come with a flush nut/washer set up, not an acorn/tapered nut. Having a flush nut makes it real hard to center/balance the tire and if you run bigger rubber that only magnifies the problem, thus creating more stress on the lugs.

Hope you find the answer to your problem...crazy scary losing those.

My issue was due to aftermarket parts. Most broken studs are due to improper tire/rim mounting (over/under torqued lugs). Which is only magnified being under load (pulling a trailer). There is not much I have read in any forums about your situation...so I would assume it was a one off, but broken lugs do happen.

Wheel studs don't "just break" people break them as BigIron says, usually by incorrect torque.

Lug nuts

So I guess the front tie rod that broke on the ram 2012 didn't just break

In the majority of the cases, improper installation including the factory caused the tre's to break. The new design relieves the installer of any need to think.

That's correct they didn't just break it was incorrect installation as Danderson pointed out. I checked the ones on my 2011 and they were installed correctly so I just left them alone.
