EVIC and Oil Changes

I am looking for some information on exactly what feedback the EVIC uses to track needed oil changes. It appears to me that it is not just a static 5000km counter nor does it seem to be an engine hour thing. I have a hard time believing my dealer who told me that it monitors how dirty your oil is and tells you when it needs to be done however, the manual says every 10,000km or when the EVIC says it needs to be done...

I believe it takes into account the type of driving that's gone on and the number of regens, if you have a 2010/2012 and still stock and doing lots of idling in the winter you may see EVIC asking for oil changes at 1500km yes Fifteen hundred km and the oil will be blacker than you have ever seen and diluted with fuel, if deleted and using a full synthetic with extended filter you may be changing every year and think the oil was just installed. Oil and filter is cheap compared to the engine damage that can occur by allowing your oil to deteriorate with fuel dilution.

That does not make sense to me......recently I changed the oil in my 2012 then drove to Calgary from Nanton. The next day I drove to our lake lot outside of Edmonton to get out travel trailer (10,000lbs) and drive to Cold Lake to pick up a friend. From there we went to Pierce Lake Saskatchewan for a fishing trip....total of 10 hours of hwy driving with my trailer. Parked for 4 days then did the reverse trip home. The next day it was asking for an oil change!!!

Did you reset the EVIC oil change interval after changing the oil?

I completely ignore the EVIC, sometimes it will ask for an oil change between 2-4000, other times I won't see it for months. I do a LOT of idling at work and usually get the oil changed every 8000-ish km's. I am running Amsoil 15w40 OEM HD for summer, and Amsoil 5w40 OEM HD in the winter along with Amsoil absolute efficiency filters. I get an analysis done every time and the oil has yet to be less than good enough to go another few thousand. I have consistently 0.0% fuel or water in the samples and plenty of anti-wear and additives left in the oil. I would be more than comfortable going well past 12k but in two shifts at work, I'd be nearly 20k and have nowhere to do an oil change up in the bush so I stick to the 8000 when i'm back in town. I'd be happy to share some analysis reports from the lab if you're interested.
