Dealer Service

Took my truck in yesterday for oil change, tranny service, and tie rod recall. I told the service person not to flash it. Had a big sign on dash to that affect.

He goes out to my truck and plugs an instrument into the access port and leaves it there while getting info on my truck for the service work. I assume that instrument scanned the ECM and will tell them what the truck has been doing?

He told me there was a mandatory ECM update out there but they were not going to do it. I told him the truck had a tune and has been perfect so NO CHANGES. He said no problem.

Guess my question is, what was that gadget they plugged into my access port?

Something to spy on what you have done for sure.

Mind sharing what dealer. Im in the Dickinson/Alvin/Manvel area, and just got the tie rod recall notice. Guess Ill bring it in around here and hold the tech at gunpoint so as he wont flash my truck. Id hate to have to beat someone with a DPF for jacking my stuff up.

Need to invent some kind of OBD port mechanical lock-out.

I haven't done it yet, since I try to avoid the dealer at all costs, but what you could do is just unclip or unscrew (can't remember which) the obd port and zip tie/tape it high up under the dash somewhere.

I suppose if the tech asks where it is at, just tell him the truck was a special epa build that you paid top dollar for and and all diagnostics of the computer, requires a specially built diagnostics scanner/programmer or just tell him it was missing from the factory

I shall do this, and try to find something to put around it and lock it up with.

I haven't seen the dealer since I bought my truck. I am my own warranty station because I deleted and I don't want anyone wrenching on it but me
I think an OBD lock would be cool.
