Laptop diagnostic software?
Hey guys, I tied searching but didn't find what I'm looking for. Does anybody know of a laptop based program that allows a user to change the dodge specific options like fog lights with high beams, seatbelt chime, high idle, etc.? I am looking for diagnostic software more than tuning. I have no intention of chipping my truck or doing deletes for awhile yet but would like some of the functionality of the tuners on the market. I have looked at several paid and free software programs on the internet but none of them really say if they do the vehicle specific options. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I discussed this with Drew Technologies as I wanted something to do the same thing as the WiTech devices dealers use, but at a fraction of the cost. They said Chrysler as of yet, won't allow their (DrewTech) devices to communicate across all the devices that interface on our trucks (dealer-level diagnostics). About the only thing their devices could do was update emissions related firmware on the ECM or TCM (required by law) and no diagnostics. I believe you could use the DashDAQ-PC (w/one of their interfaces) to read generic OBD codes, but that is about it, and you can get something like an ELM OBD reader for the fraction of the cost. A lot of other companies out their advertising diagnostic tools with their own software, uses one of DrewTech's tools anyhow.
With the Right To Repair Coalition, maybe one day that will all change. Because of auto manufacturers selfish nature and dealer preference, they have all but nearly knocked out all independent mechanics ability to properly diagnose and fix a customers vehicle without spending tens of thousands of dollars on dealer tools and instead have to either refer their customers to the dealer or take the customer's car to the dealer for them.
Here is the OEM Application Info from DrewTech: http://www.drewtech.com/technician/support/oemapps.html
I have done some research on the CAN and LIN protocols and there are people out there who have interfaced with the CAN bus to the point of manipulating the messages to turn on/off different functions, but it wasn't a permanent solution since as soon as the computer was disconnected, the messages would be sent/received as normal.
If you find something that works, let me know!
