Fuel mileage gains with the Smarty

Hello all,
Will anyone please provide fuel mileage information gained or lost after the installation of a Smarty on a 4th gen? I'm trying to compare comments between the Mini-Max and the Smarty.
Thank you.

You will never get a straight answer. I was told by people if I remove my cat on my 2005 f350 diesel it would get 4 mpg city. My results were Nothing! I am deleting my Dodge now. I will post the 100% truth on mpg and anything else.

I was getting around 12.5 on the highway with the cruise set at 80mph before the Smarty now I am getting a solid 15.9 at the same speed. On average it is 3-5 MPG better with the smarty JR running at the performance setting. Today I got 16.8 with the cruise set at 80MPG driving from Odessa to Pecos. Im not now nor will I ever be a "well if you just drive 62MPG and take off really slow guys" these are my results.

Everyone I talked to at mads and at the different retailers said they have seen the greatest mileage increases on #3 if you can keep your foot out of it. So thats where I went first. Once I am convinced about consistent mileage I will back up and try the #2 hole and so on and so forth until I find which one works best for me.

I haven't seen any increase and I've tested many times. The EGT's are lower and the truck gets out of it's own way now with Smarty.

Thank you an honest reply. I read 25mpg 20mpg I just think people want to think it improvrs mpg. Maybe 1 or 2 that is it if that! I am doing the delete for my truck so it will last. Not for hp,smoke or just to spend $1000 bucks.

I have close to six years of data starting in Nov 07, when I bought my 08 Mega Cab new. I record every fill-up and mileage on an excel spread sheet. This spread sheet than calculates MPG and yearly MPG for the truck and records the cost per gallon and total. I include my towing mileage and non towing mileage on the same spread sheet. I tow a 318 SAB Cougar 5er that is 12 ft high and 11K total weight.

My yearly average before the Smarty install was 11.6 MPG and nearly used 1,096 gallons in 12,706 miles. The next year was a partial year; I installed the Smarty in early 09 so I will not include this reading since it is a combination of the non Smarty use and Smarty use.

The last three years that the Smarty S67 was installed were on SW3 timing 2; all other parameters were set to default. The mileage was between 13.8 and 14.2 MPG’s, this depended on how many trips I took without the camper attached. My best all time mileage reading doing 65 MPH without the camper attached was close to 20 MPG hand calculated.

So I would say there is between a 2.2 to 2.6 MPG gains with the Smarty when used for towing mostly. The biggest reason I like the Smarty is that 99% of the exhaust soot is not going into the engine oil since the EGR is shut off. AN oil changes are now at 7,500 miles instead of the 3,000 miles I was getting.

That alone is worth it to me. Last year we took mr 34' fifthwheel from pa. To yellowstone and back. I had to change the oil when we out there. I never did before. The salesman told me 7000 to 7500 miles per oil change. If I get 4000 miles now I would be happy!

I run a Smarty jr ME and the only gain I get in MPG is because the engine does not spend 15% of the time in Regen mode getting 11mpg hwy.
if you are running a non ME tune you probably will NOT see any gains.

My mileage changed when we pulled our fifth wheel. I was pulling at 9 to 10 mpg we got 14 mpg. On the way home solo we got 19.7 mpg we never got better than 15 max. I am going to install egt gauge due to the power at foot feeling!
