Donaldson 2 mic filter, and water sep. install
Just made my mount for both of the filter bases. I'm using a 10 micron Donaldson fuel/water separator before a 2 micron Donaldson fuel filter. Used compression fittings to tap into 3/8" stock steel line. I also installed a ball valve on each side of the bases so when I replace filters I can turn off and not loose diesel out of the lines. Was an easy install, truck fired right up. Seems to idle smoother. Did the whole project for about $90.
While I was ordering filters I decided to order the Donaldson Endurance oil filters for my truck as well. Rated for 15 microns around 98% or so. Going to install on next oil change.
If anyone is interested in part #s on any of the filters, even have Baldwin part #s too that will fit the same bases. I just felt Donaldson was going to be the best, plus its a 2 Mic absolute.

Was going to also take out the fuel filter in the stock can, since its about 7-10 micron, and after the new 2 micron I put in. Really no point in even having it. Any thoughts, suggestions? Thanks.

See if a baldwin 7977 filter will fit the canister, I use one and it 3 to 5 micron, might not fit as mine is a gen 3, not sure if the gen 4`s are different.

The only thing you will miss is the 500watt fuel heater and dash cel warning for the 'water in fuel'
I made my own set-up as well. I run the stock filter, then a "cat 1R-0750" fuel filter and installed an autometer fuel pressure gauge, on the outlet side of the filter. I only change the filters on when the fuel pressure starts to drop. My costs was around $30-40.

I kept my stock filter just for the extra protection. Not too worried about the filtering end but having another water separator with a level alarm doesn't hurt.
I figure I'll change it every 50k miles or so just for craps 'n giggles.

Wow, so I drove the truck today first time since new filters. The engine sounds and feels so much smoother. Or maybe is because I took the breather off the crankcase and routed a hose down to the frame. The perform service hasn't gone off today either. This truck has 35k miles on it. I have all the filters and parts for the 12 also....waiting to delete till 3k miles.
If I can tell this much difference between the better filters, wonder off ill be able to tell going from a 30 micron oil filter to a 15 micron?
Thanks for the input guys, if I decide to take the filter out of the can I guess ill still have the heater?...I won't bypass it.
I was going to just mount a 2 micron after the sticker, but I really wanted better water seperating capabilities. I know it won't tell me when there's a lot of water in the new filter. Was thinking of draining it weekly, see how much it catches. How often should a water seperator be changed? Same time I change the 2 Mic filter?..longer?
