Build List

Well the time has come. I'm about to depart for 7 months and have my build sheet/budget. Tear it apart.

Goal: Simply a reliable towing beast. I think with the below I should be about conservative 450 HP.

H&S MiniMax - Have to change in order to run the transmission
68RFE Revmax 550 with Billet Flexplate and Stage V converter
DPP Spectre 66/67/70 - I know it's pricey but I want to keep the EB
PDI Manifold
GDP 75 HP nozzles
ARP studs
GDP MegaFlo

Questions:
ARP 425 or the 625 for this setup? I will get the head decked, since I know my head gasket currently is a ticking time bomb.
Do I need to wastegate?
Do I need a bigger fuel pump? 150?

Thanks! I know a bigger single charger with a pacbrake would be slightly cheaper, but I think it's worth the extra $200.00.

Currently the truck has a Smarty Jr, Sinister delete and MK II kit. Also running Boost, Pyro and FP gauges.

You are right on point.

The 425s should do the job just fine.

I'd do a fuel pump for sure. I like the AirDogII 165 cause it comes with the tank kit also. I didn't touch the CP3 and so far it's been just fine with my DDP 90s.

Just an fyi- the pacbrake only works with the vgt turbo.

How heavy you hauling? I would include water/methanol kit, just to kill some egt's on the killer hills. Keep us posted on how well everything hold together. Our local trans builder told me that there is no way an 68rfe would hold anymore than stock. I have a spare core 68rfe transmission. I'm not sure which way I want to go, as I don't like how much rpm's the engine drops in high gear, when I tow. I rev around 1600-1700 rpm's and any sign of a hill, the truck is kicking down out of 6th

The truck would haul a mountain, if it just had another 100rwhp and 200-300ft*lbs. I plan to just wait till the 2013 come out with the better aisin transmission.

A G56 would be an easy swap, as I have a spare as well. I also have a few 48re's cores. Worst issue is the t-case but its just easier to leave it all stock.

If you want a head done similar to Blakes, I can get one done, as I have core 6.7L engine available

Id take Mike up on that offer for the o-rings.

That with a set of 425s and youd be set for enough to toss rods outta the block.

Thanks for the feedback. I've finally made it to destination Afghan, so it's taken me awhile to get back on.

Blake - I will add the 165 to the list. I figured I would need a pump, last thing I want to do is drain the rails or throw the rods out of the block.....

Mike - The RevMax transmission comes with a 2 year unlimited mile warranty. Plus, they are located out of Charlotte, NC so they are close to me if something isn't right. My toy hauler (5th wheel) averages around 16,500 but i've maxed it out at 18,000. I'd love to have a head done similar to Blakes. What does that run?

Good luck with the transmission. Heard guys going thru three to four transmissions only to sell the truck or going with a 48RE.

I would really like to have a real useable extra 100rwhp and 200-300ft*lbs of torque for towing. If I do a turbo upgrade I'll probably just put a S478/96 1.32 under the stock turbo and run water methanol/water spray.

I'm not a 48RE and towing fan. I own an older 47RE truck done tons of towing with decent power (500rwhp). Towing heavy and lots of fuel is smokey deal. Got tired of the big smoke clouds.

If I do a swap its going to be for what ever manual trans I can find cheap and easy. I might even consider a NV4500/NP241, but with a fifth gear fix.
